When we lived in S FL I had a Blue-Fronted Amazon and Umbrella Cockatoo. They spent most of their lives in our screened pool deck, coming into the FL room only in inclement weather. When we moved back north, I didn't think it would be fair to them to change their lives so much, so they stayed with my friend who had a couple of Macaws and a Cockatoo: they are still happily with her more than 20 years later.
I have always missed my birds, and after retiring this year decided to look for a small parrot. I knew I didn't want a large parrot again, as we breed and exhibit Shih Tzu and that much noise and mess I didn't need as well! After much research, I decided on a Caique and found a local breeder with a newly-hatched clutch of White Bellies. I went to talk to her and pick one out, put down a deposit, and brought Pitu' home last month.
I have to say, he is a complete delight! No one was kidding when they talked about Caique energy levels - he seems to be playing constantly - and he is such a smart boy: he steps up reliably, is well on his way to being potty-trained, and has already learned to "hop n' bop" on command. (That was easy, because he loves to dance and sing along to music).
Looking forward to learning a lot and enjoying everyone's feathered kids!
