Hi looking into adopting a African grey or any sort of parrot

Hi i am looking into adding another African grey to the family i currently own three africans and is my hobby to take care of them i have a male green Senegal parrot and two black francolin peasants too. I also have a huge aviary with over 3/400 pigeons also. If you do have any interest in speaking about re homing please let me know my father comes from back ground of keeping birdies and parrots owned a really stressed African and we have cared and looked after the parrot and still doing so good. I can also send pictures of my mini friends on request

Is there as specific reason you are looking to add to your flock? Where are you located? What is your budget? We usually don’t have parrots available in this group but it always helps to get to know us before asking people to give you their pets...

Also “or any type of parrot”?? That’s a pretty big red flag...

Im just looking to add a new specie to the flock i have as this creates a different environment. I am located in leeds and i look in to adopting. I do also look into finding a mate for my African because they look to always mate. And my dear Senegal is the funniest parrot aha always tweeting and whistling and nibbling my ears my africans love to socialise and participate in everything we do.

“Or any type of parrot” i’m not sure what you mean as red flag??

The red flag is : looking for a parrot, any parrot.

Lots of unsavory people trawl the fora looking for surplus parrots and although they will promise (swear on their mothers head etc.etc.) the bird will find 'a good forever home' with them, the bird will be sold for profit to the highest bidder.

So that is why asking for 'a parrot, it doen nog matter what type' makes a lot of people suspicious.
Of course someone might just be innocently asking ...
but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck ...not many people think "oh cockatoo in disguise".

Yep we refer to them as "Pet Flippers", it way to common unfortunately.

It is the dishonest ones that lie to get pet for free and then turn around and resell them on Facebook, Craigslist and ETC. Then animal ends up suffering as they are not usually setup correctly to care for the animal in the first place, as they only did it to get a quick buck.

Finding a mate for your current African grey going to be tricky. A lot involve as you have to look to see if male going to be to aggressive, or if female will even accept him and ETC. Not easy to mate, or breed parrots especially larger birds, as they can fight and hurt, or kill each other. It took my female umbrella 4 different male cockatoos before she decided on a mate which ended up being my recuse Copper which she took to him on first day they meet. My friends umbrella Angel she wanted nothing to do with, the breeder friends male Blizzard umbrella she mated with, but he was way to aggressive, so had to separate. Then one other she chase around. Finally was just about to give up and ended up coming across Copper at a garage sale that needed to be rescue and after keeping him separate and getting him better on first day I introduced them, he did his clicking sound and then they started to preen each other and play. Then they started mating. Both have same temperament and worked out perfect, as no fighting, or signs of aggression.

Oh i u derstand what you mean but no not in a day would i ever mistreat my birdies they are like my besties always greet when i open the door. Something i cannot condone to sell parrots. I have had these parrots for a really long time and never ever had a thought to sell. And my canary is a solo birdie loves singing i have not bought the canary a partner as i had been frightened it may end up dying as the stories i have seen the parrots and canary are really valuable to me my day wont start till i go feed and play with them.

Thank you for the information and i do agree the parrots to get aggressive mine tried mating with the knee when it comes to the mating season thats why i was trying to look for a partner hoping to have babies to and hand tame all three and have a nice big parrot aviary with variety of parrots thats my goal to make a aviary of parrots and be unique and save and rescue birds that are in need i haven’t got any intention to sell.
