Hello to Parrotforums! It is nice to meet all of you. The reason I came is to learn as much as I can about caring for and training green cheek conures. I don't have my own bird, but I live with my sister (who is never home) and she has a two year old, male, cinnamon green cheek named Leif that we have had for about a year now. He is something else alright! I hope to help us grow into a stronger family unit and teach him that he actually can respect me and that I do love him regardless of my sister's presence (or his constant threats and bites). Leif and I had made some progress, but he never seems to stay nice for long. If he doesn't want to do something, he still thinks that it is ok to bite me, even if the only reason I am trying to move him is for his own safety (or bedtime)! He always wants to do things his way and I see that as evidence of a badly trained animal. I don't understand how to train him, but that is why I am here! I apologize for the long post, but I am at my wits end and this is a pretty good representation of why I want to be on this forum.

Hello and welcome! I truely believe you came to the right place. Just remember that the training is never really over. I have had my green cheek for 6 months and i am his chosen person and he still bites me sometimes. Birds have moods and opinions just like we do. I am sure you will get a lot of advice from more experienced bird parents, but my advice would be to first get to know the bird and his body language. You need to be watching them for signs that they are unhappy or too excited etc...
