Middle of nowhere (kentuckianna)
Parrots
Roommates include Gus, Blue and gold macaw rescue and Coco, secondhand amazon
I'm late introducing myself, though I wasted no time asking for advice. For which thanks, by the way. I used to work for a tech company that got shot out from under me, and now I do bookbinding / restoration / conservation on a very part time basis. When I met my future husband, I hesitated because he was the devoted owner or possession of a BF Amazon, and I thought I might always be second fiddle. Boy, was I right. I worked so hard to make friends with that little monster. Eventually he let me pick him up and carry him wherever he wanted to go, talked to me, danced and played fetch, and even learned to turn somersaults on command for mere treats. Well, he died this spring, and we were both devastated. We just adopted a 14 year old rescue blue and gold macaw named Gus. For the first time I get to scratch a bird head instead of watching jealously from my exile on the end of the couch. You can expect lots of macaw questions, rescue questions, training questions, etc. I can help with of-topic computer question or questions about books. And I did make friends with somebody else's Amazon, which must be worth something. Thanks again for all the once and future help and companionship, and I hope to be able to give something back.

Welcome! I like you already! Glad you found us and are joining the adventure. Lots of macaw lovers (and general parrot brainiacs) here.
As you're formulating questions... take any issue or topic which interests you, and use the Search Tab to read, read, read about it. I do that a lot. The people here are an amazing source of information, advice, and support.
Me? Not so much an expert, unless you want to know about Patagonian Condors... CONURES! CONURES!

I fell in love with a conure, a green cheeked sweetie in a pet store. Hubby was buying seeds, I was peering in cage, bird hops over and presses his head up against the bars, I reach hand over, hear hubs say "be careful!". Rub little head. Hubs says "awww... He's letting you scratch his little head! Do you want him?" I say no, not going to make such a commitment on impulse, leave store. Do some research, decide not to take on a bird at this point in life. But I've never forgotten that sweet little thing, and I hope he found someone who loved him, and I will always feel a little guilty for leaving him there.

Welcome, very nice introduction! I already liked you for adopting Gus. I'm sorry about your Amazon. I have a feeling there may be a GCC in your future too.

Welcome to the forums, thanks for joining! Very sorry you lost your Blue Front, he no doubt found a way into your heart after a difficult introduction.

Rescuing is a most noble gesture, no doubt Gus will be a terrific companion! Macaw personalities are very distinct!

E Town, you mean English? I always think of that as Elizabethtown KY. I'm near Marengo but I don't know about the flea market. Don't put your address online - but you can send me a private message, would love to message a neighbor.
