Hello. I have had small birds most of my life and got my first cockatoo in about 1990. I have been known as Birdmom2a2 since I got a Goffin's cockatoo back in 1999. Sydnee was almost 4 months old when I adopted him and he passed away in 02/22/2015. I have rescued quite a few birds including lovebirds, parakeets, cockateils, conures, cockatoos, and a few baby birds that had fallen from their nests.

Kiwi is a 15-year-old Lilac Crowned Amazon who I inherited from my mom at 3 yrs old after Mom passed away. Mom adopted Kiwi at 10 months old after her previous family gave her up in favor for a macaw. She is my only bird at this time.

If there ever was a perfect bird, she is it. She has no behavioral issues, does not scream, does not bite, and is a fantastic companion. She has a backpack and loves going for walks outside. I work at home so we spend a lot of time together. She is free flighted but we live alone, so kids running in and out of the door is not an issue. She has a daytime cage and a manzanita tree where she spends most of her time. She has a sleeping cage in her own room and sleeps from 5 pm to 5 am. The only times her cage door is closed is when I am not home, at night, or for safety reasons.

I am always searching for ways to enrich her life and provide for her in the best possible way. She does not like much in the way of toys but she does enjoy hand toys made of soft wood and some hanging toys, again with soft wood only. I am afraid she is bored, I would be if I were her, but I do not know what else to do about it. I have posted a picture of her and her cage. I hope you can see them.

Hello and welcome to you and Kiwi! What a beautiful girl she is!
I am so sorry for your loss of your Mother and Sydnee.

Kiwi sounds like an amazing girl, I am looking forward to hearing more about her.
I'm really happy you joined us!

Welcome and be welcomed. LCA are very nice birds and it sounds like yours is a good one. One thing you might try is to teach her some tricks , amazons love to get praise and treats and teaching her her life. some basic ones can enrich her life. To see what is possible click on the link below, and check out some of my Salty's videos. He looks so forward to training time and doing them for people.

Welcome.
Thank you for sharing your story.
I'm so glad you found us!

Welcome!

Sounds like Kiwi is doing great with you and in turn has a great home! There's so much great info on this forum so I hope you get all sorts of inspiration to make life even more enriching for her.

I'm sure there are tonnes of posts going into detail about enrichment here (and on the internet) but from what I've read, teaching birds to forage is a great way to entertain birds who aren't interested in toys that much.

Anyway good luck and welcome again!
