Galah ( Rose Breasted Cockatoo) named Bandit
Hi I"m a single mum to 2 boys and 1 girl, a cat and a Galah, I also have a 5 year old granddaughter. My Galah ( Rose Breasted Cockatoo) is named Bandit. I live in Doreen Victoria Australia and I love to spend time with my children and my grandaughter, cat and my new baby Galah Bandit. I work in a nursing home as a Personal Care Assistant.

I would love to meet some new people and make new friends. I am also new to having a parrot, but i have done some research into having a Galah but will take any advise about them i can.

I've only had bandit for about a week now.

Thanks

Hi labell
Bandit is just over 4 months old the lady who sold him to me said he was born in December 2013. Im currently trying to get him onto pellets and fresh fruit and veggies. He weighs about 270 grams, i think i would feel better if he would start putting on a bit of weight but hes hovering around 270 gram mark.

Welcome to the forum!!!! Bandit is a very handsome boy!!! Is he on a all seed diet right now??? I would personally let him get used to his new environment first before trying to change his diet. But if you offer right now and he's eating it then go for it. Good luck! :)

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

270 grams is a fine weight for a galah, they reach full size at around 4 weeks old, and will stay at the 240-300 gram mark for the rest of their lives.

Welcome to the forums! Glad to see another galah joining the ranks ;)

270g is fine- my girl is just over a year and weighs about 265g...I'm not pushing weight gain or encouraging it because Galahs are so prone to becoming overweight and having fatty tumor issues.

I don't mean to alarm you, but juvenile Galahs usually have grey scalloping on their pink feathers they lose these scalloped feathers when they molt....which their first molt is around 1 year old, but even then it can take a molt or two before they get their all-pink adult feathers.

Hi everyone
Thank you for such a warm welcome and advise. Please add me to your friends list if you want. Bandit is doing well and he is eating the pellets i started him with his seeds and pellets mixed together with a bit of water and he seems to like these pellets now. I'm going to introduce sprouts to him today, he has been slowly eating fruit and veggies. He has settled in well. Thank you for calming my worries about his weight.
Ok Bandit is calling he knows it weight time and then shower time lol little devil catches on quick
Add me if you like i will reply as soon as i can as i work afternoon shift.
Thanks all
Bella
