I am new to this forum. I unfortunately lost my Caique who I had almost 20 years. I found him floating in the pool a couple of weeks ago. Spunky was a typical Caique and had a very strong personality. He started being able to open one of the side doors on his cage. We kept zip tying it but he would chew right through the tie. He loved being on top of his cage. We live in Miami where the weather is usually beautiful. He hardly ever left the cage and would return to the inside to eat and sleep and play with his toys. I was shocked and heart broken to find him. I think something must of spooked him.
Since I have always had a parrot despite that I am missing Spunky I could be without a parrot. So I did purchase a baby Senegal. He is approximately 2 months old. I am not an inexperience bird person. I use to raise Lovebirds many years ago. I actually hand raised my first bird an Umbrella Cockatoo. Unfortunately I had to give her away in a divorce settlement. I gave her to a friend who set her up with a mate. I was heart broken and several years later when life settled down I purchased Spunky. Spunky was a part of the family, twenty years is a long time and I am still mourning him but excited to have a new addition to our family. I haven't named our new little bird. He is doing well. I took him to the vet immediately. The initial stool looked good waiting for the cultures. He is eating well and the vet thought he looked healthy. I think I have already started to spoil him.
So just a little bit more about me. I am a mother of 4 children that are mostly grown my youngest is 19 and in college. I have 8 dogs. I rescued our boxer who is deaf, and I have worked with him and he completed his Canine Good Citizen. We have had Bandit for almost 7 years now. We call him our special needs child.( LOL) You have to know his personality to understand. I have 5 little chihuahuas who I love to death, 4 canaries two are a breeding pair and 2 are their babies. I raise Sugar Gliders and have had to hand raise several joeys. Hand feeding a 11gm sugar glider is quite an experience. I recently became a beekeeper and have 5 beehives in my backyard. I write a blog about my gardening and beekeeping. I am true animal lover and care deeply about our environment and pollinators. Here is my blog site if you want to look at it. www.reenysbutterfliesbloomsbees.blogspot.com
I look forward to learning and reading everyones post. I alread have started reading how to target train your parrot, which is something I never taught Spunky.
