I just got an Alexandrine Parakeet :greenyellow:. 5-6 month . Male .
How I can earn it trust.
This is my 1st time to have one. And I hope to get some help .

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new baby!

Earning a parrot's trust can take a lot of time and patience, so don't try to hurry the process or get discouraged if he doesn't trust you the first day. If you just got him recently he'll still be settling in to the new environment, so he'll probably be a little fearful. For now, just spend time near the cage talking softly to him and, if he'll accept them, giving him treats through the cage bars. Once he's settled in try doing some trick training to begin to form a strong bond with him. Look up "how to target train a parrot" or look up Barbara Heidenreich for some training starters. Good luck!

Ducati was already trained on step up, so when we brought him home I set his cage up right by where I spend most of my time and would sit and talk to him. Just him, no cell phone, no tv, no other pets. It was time I set aside specifically for me and him. Then I'd start giving him treats through the cage. Just hold it there. Don't try and chase him around with it because you'll scare him more. If he doesn't take it then keep trying. Eventually he'll come around. Don't expect him to be cuddly and want pets right off the bat as well. If he does then that's great! But if not, don't push it. I'm currently working with Ducati on just beak scratches and that makes him uncomfortable some of the time. It can be slow depending on the bird and the time/quality of training. Be patient and focus on establishing a bond. It feels amazing when he starts coming to you on his own accord! Good luck and congrats on your new friend!!:D

Welcome to the forum and Congratulations to you and your new friend.

A lot of it lol. Ducati LOVES apples. But there's pears, oranges, pomegranates, mango, papaya, berries. Pretty much anything you can think of. If you a question about a certain fruit or vegetable just ask on here and you'll have a lot of people who can help you out.

Would love to see a pic. I love the look of Alexandrines!

Have you had Alex for 5-6 months?
Because your male has his ring which means he is an adult.
His tail looks a bit ratty. I would be checking his droppings and his vent as these things are a good indicator of your birds health.

I just got it from the animal market , they told me he is around 5 - 7 month old. Today I am taking him to a veterinary clinic to make sure that he is fine .

Going by the photo, he has his ring around the neck which means he is that least two years old probably closer to three.

You sure about the age ? If so should I keep him or should I replace him with a younger one ??

there in another thing he is doing. It look like he is scratches his upper beak with his lower one and it sounds like scratching a blackboard with your fingernails.. also his feathers some time he shake it . So is that normal? ?

It's a good idea to get him vet checked to make sure he is healthy, a check up is always good!
Though I understand you were expecting a young bird and were apparently lied to about the age, I wouldn't trade him! It might take him a bit more time to come around but that doesn't mean he will be a bad companion. Many of us on here have rescue/rehomed birds that came to us as adults and the bonds are just wonderful.
With enough time and TLC he'll come around.

And the beak grinding you're describing is normal. It's usually a sign of contentment/comfort. Most of mine do it while relaxing or getting ready for bed.

I wouldn't say you should rehome him. He will still live a long, full life with proper care and lots of love. Everything you're describing sounds like pretty normal behavior, at least with the experience I've had with my Sun. When you say he shakes his feathers, is he getting all fluffy? Ducati will do that when we call him a pretty bird, like he's getting all bashful. Or when he looks at himself in his mirror, my vain little boy.

well I went to a vet. And they told me that he is perfectly fine and all that is normal... I think I'll keep him 👍

My room is air conditioning. How much should I set the temperature for him ? Usually I set it on 18°C.
Is it OK?

hey congratulations..

post his photos?

how to gain trust? - my experience is limited, but based on what i read here, i gained trust of my alxendraine male parakeet: in a short time

here is what i learned:

1) first few days, he would be unsure of u - to say the least.. dont be surprised if he tries to bite u, even when you are feeding him.. dont resists.. dont look into his eyes.. but have him see a hand feeding him.. with his eyes, not be able to see u

2) after a few days, i used to take a wooden branch and he use to want to climb it.. he then came oyt and i used to roam him with him sitting on the wooden branch..

3) after a few days, when i tried to put my hand on his back.. he would resists and attempt to bite...

4) a week later.. he even would let me play with his beek.. !!

5) then i knew he trusted me.. i used to talk to him and whistle when he whistled..

6) after time.. he even began kissing me.. and i would hold him like a human baby !!:)
