Hi all, I made my first post a few months ago about my husband bringing a GCC into the house as a gift for me as my first bird.
She's adjusted well and fits into our home perfectly. At first I was calling her Petrie, but she just looks like a Peanut to me. She spends most of her days with her cage open, eating with us off our plates (sigh!) and terrorizing the coffee table, stealing soda cans and tipping them over if they're empty, pushing the remotes onto the floor or stealing bites of whatever we're eating. She's now onto a pellet diet with seeds for treats. The first time she startled and flew off the cage, I freaked out not really having a plan to get her back up, she waddled over to me, hopped onto my hand and was quite happy to be placed back onto the cage. She now makes regular journeys off the cage and likes to sit on the back of the couch, playing with my hair and making her happy little noises. She still refuses to let me touch her, except to pick her up off the floor, but in the long run I haven't had her that long and I don't think it's a big deal if we're never able to do it.
She has bitten me once and I'll be completely honest, I cried. It HURTS! I didn't react, just pushed her beak off my hand while telling her no, put her back into the cage and sobbed quietly in the corner lol.
