Hi all, I made my first post a few months ago about my husband bringing a GCC into the house as a gift for me as my first bird.

She's adjusted well and fits into our home perfectly. At first I was calling her Petrie, but she just looks like a Peanut to me. She spends most of her days with her cage open, eating with us off our plates (sigh!) and terrorizing the coffee table, stealing soda cans and tipping them over if they're empty, pushing the remotes onto the floor or stealing bites of whatever we're eating. She's now onto a pellet diet with seeds for treats. The first time she startled and flew off the cage, I freaked out not really having a plan to get her back up, she waddled over to me, hopped onto my hand and was quite happy to be placed back onto the cage. She now makes regular journeys off the cage and likes to sit on the back of the couch, playing with my hair and making her happy little noises. She still refuses to let me touch her, except to pick her up off the floor, but in the long run I haven't had her that long and I don't think it's a big deal if we're never able to do it.

She has bitten me once and I'll be completely honest, I cried. It HURTS! I didn't react, just pushed her beak off my hand while telling her no, put her back into the cage and sobbed quietly in the corner lol.

Aw, she's adorable. It sounds like she's already fitting in pretty nicely :) And I know what you mean about the bites, when I get bit by our little black cap it hurts so bad! I've been bitten by birds 5 times his size and it didn't hurt as bad as his! They have unbelievably strong beaks and they are perfect for slicing right into your skin :(

My latest biter is from my hormonal macaw that caught me off guard and he peel open my hand like a banana peel, now that hurts!!! I was paying too much attention to the tv and wasn't didn't pay attention to his attitude and the way he was posing himself. IF I had been watching, I would of known not to mess with him....We all get bit one time or another and yes they bite hard! LoL...

I got the worst bite ever from my Nanday a few months ago. I had to medicate her, she knew the drill and didn't want to cooperate. She got a small artery in my index finger and I had blood squirting out everywhere! Meanwhile, I had put the cat in the bathroom to bring the bird out. Guess where all the bandages were?

My father used to tell me horror stories about his macaw, Joshua, biting people and I developed a pretty good fear of birds lol. I think I was more startled then actually hurt but I'm sort of a wuss.

Peeled like a banana! Ouch! That sounds HORRIBLE!

Thankfully I have yet to be bitten by Con or the new Sun conure at work. I've only ever gotten a hard nip from Con but that's cause I had been holding a Cinnamon Green Cheek from another store before I'd gone in for my shift. I think he knew even though I washed my hands...

And now I really want a banana :)

What a cutie!!

Puck is very cuddly and playful, but when he's in a bad mood he bites hard! I have lost count of how many times he has drawn blood!

It didn't actually hurt that bad, but it was a total mess. I couldn't get it to stop bleeding, and I couldn't get the bird with that going on. I finally had no choice but to go wash it off, and I had to put like 3 bandaids on.

So far my hardest bite was from a cockatoo in a pet store. That left big bruises.

I've had one minor bite from the new zon on the second day he was here. He was letting me know that my hands in his cage putting in new perches and toys was scaring him. Honestly though it wasn't much of a bite so he wasn't really trying to hurt me.
