Parrots
Savannah, 4 year old Hahns Macaw
Hello all! My name is Caitlin and I am technically a new parrot owner. I grew up with a Sun Conure and a Quaker Parrot, though neither of which I took sole responsibility for as they were my parents. My husband also grew up with a Yellow Naped Amazon, which continues to live on in hopes to one day catch me off guard and make lunch of my arm. I will admit he has been close on a few occasions.

We recently, about a month ago, got a Hahns Macaw that will be four this June. She has quite the personality and loves to chat up a storm. She especially loves to sing and dance with us. Her past owner taught her well and we hope to continue on adding more to her already wide range of vocabulary.

She lost the feathers on her chest before we got her and they are currently growing back in. I am not sure if they will ever grow in completely, but she is a cutie either way.

I came to this forum to further my knowledge of birds and have a community that I can come to when in need of advice. Being able to share stories and pictures is really just an excellent perk, I swear! lol

Here are some pictures of Savannah, the Hahns Macaw.

awww what a cutie, welcome to the forum,
my nut chewed nearly all her feathers down including the feathers on her wings
an chewed ends of the flight feathers :( because she was in season
but as she is molting, i am seein her colours come through, slowly but surely, very exciting, but if i was to post a picture of her now how she is, she is the most scruffy looking bird ever!

as for your husbands bird layin in wait for you to leave your arm un guarded, may i suggest chain mail lol

Thanks! Aw, at least they are coming back in! I haven't seen any new pin feathers on Savannah in a while. I know that many times once a bird plucks they damage it so much that they no longer can grow new ones. I am hoping that is not the case, but she is pretty cute all fuzzy and whatnot. lol.

The Amazon is currently staying with us too. He hates me with a passion. A while ago I was able to bond with him so much that I had him on my shoulder and could pet him. But after we moved him inside, he has hated me ever since. I have officially given up. One scary bird! lol

Though I think chain mail would come in very handy when going to feed him.

:) Welcome to the forum :) Very beautiful bird.
