female eclectus parrot "ANGEL"
Hi all.

The GCC are only 5 mths old and the Princess Parrot is only young, not sure how old as the bird club I brought him from didn't tell us, so we gave him his own birthday!.

We have started training them with touch training, patting them and having them sit on our finger and talk to them and learning "step up" and "step down".

Thats all for now, I am sure I will enjoy reading the forums and probably post a few questions myself. :)

Hello, and welcome to the forum! Sounds like you're off to a good start. How are they taking to the training?

Hello. Welcome. Good luck with breeding the conures.

The conures are hard to get near at the moment. If I manage to get one and take it into the "training room" it is fine. Having trouble learning to step up. They just stare at me as if to say "your kidding aren't you". I will keep persisting. The touch training and receiving a treat worked right off the bat. So I tried to put my finger in front so they would have to step on my finger for the treat - not working so far.

If they breed they breed, if they don't it doesn't worry me. They are from the same clutch and very bonded.

Welcome to the forum!!! If they do breed, please do dispose the eggs! Not a good thing if they're siblings. Keep up the good work and keep on working with them. It will just take you a lot of time and patience to turn them around eventually. Good luck! :)

Just rang the breeder I got them from and they are definately from different clutches, just raised together, hence the strong bond. Both their leg rings are different colours and thats how the breeder knows which clutch they are from. Good to know.

For the step-up training, have you tried gentle pressure with your finger/perch just below the area of their chests? (That's assuming, of course, that they are not fleeing from your hand at this point.)

And what about Cheeky? How goes her training and adjustment? Any pics of them?

Anansi, Cheeky's training is going well also. I think he is in the biting stage but can hand feed him with touch training. There are pics of all 3 of my birds in the conure section entitled "pictures of my two new conures". http://www.parrotforums.com/conures/39945-pictures-my-two-new-conures.html

I have tried with the finger under the breastbone bit - and they don't want to step up. Once they are on my finger, I make them step up again on to my other finger and so on and so on. Patience and persistance!
