Umbrella Cockatoo
Hey all, I Need Advice on my Umbrella Cockatoo,
she wants to breed and I need advice on how to calm her down ..
she's 15 yrs old now ,has been nippy and lunging at me lately
any out there would be appreciated
Thx in Advance Deb :white1:

Cockatoos are rather sensitive compared to some other parrots, so hormonal seasons can be tricky. When she's being roosty/nesty distract her with something, a toy or something to take her mind away from it. Also swap the toys in her cage more frequently than usual (if you can) to keep her mind busy while you can't play with her.

This is all based off things I have read and talked to people about, keep in mind, not personal experience. Some members here with U2's can probably chime in and help you more. :) best of luck

I haven't had my U2 for very long but I know what you mean. She LOVES her toys...really loves them! I make sure that when I pet her it's only on her head/neck and I make sure I switch her toys out often. Hopefully other cocky owners will chime in soon and can give you more/better advice than I can. Good luck.

Hello and welcome, Deb! How long have you had your U2 and what is her name? My U2, Popeye is having similar problems. The best thing you can do is try to distract her with fun and interesting things to do. Make sure she's getting enough sleep. Cut down on high protein foods and nuts and instead feed more fresh vegetables and a little fruit. You probably already know this, but I wouldn't handle her as often as normal, just neck scratches so she doesn't get the wrong idea. The good thing is, this too shall pass, and you'll have your sweet girl back. Good luck. We'd love to see photos of her.
