So i have a parrot named kiwi
I trained her to step up on a perch while my hand is carrying the perch
And she is great at it
But every time she steps up she bites the perch
And when i tried to make her step up on my hand she wants to step up but she will bite before so i dont make her
And i know they use there beak as a 3 hand
But it hurts when she tries to step up
Any advice to making her step up without biting

Give her time to settle in and be sure you are not forcing.

Give her a treat AS she steps up so her beak is busy with the treat, not your hand.

If she is biting there is a reason; you need to figure out the reason. Is she afraid of you, does she not like interacting with you? Does she just not like that particular stick? Are you trying to pick her up off of her cage, aka her territory?

He likes me
But the problem is he will bite anything before stepping op
He does not hate me and isnt afraid of me
Be how can i get him to step up without biting ?
Btw the biting is NOT AND AGGRESSIVE BITE
he just uses his beak as a hand witch hurts hoe can i make him step up using his legs and not his beak

Using a beak as a hand is normal but it shouldn’t hurt. I’ve never had a bird do that in a painful way.

It could be that he doesn’t trust the stability of your hand and feels the need to test it before stepping up, or that he hasn’t had any bite pressure training, but this is an unusual situation for that problem.

When you ask him to step up, do you have to touch him with your hand or the stick to get him to step up, or will he do it if you just hold your hand in front of him? Does he bite at any other time? Does he ever step up without biting?

Interesting.

It may just be a weird habit that I’m guessing stems from a combination of not trusting perches when he was younger/more wobbly, and a habit developed from that. I could be wrong.

I would still use a treat or toy held closer to his face as you ask him to step up to distract him and occupy his beak during that moment until you can break the cycle.

If it hurts- it's not being used like a hand. I have had my large cockatoo hold all of her weight on my ear when scared, and that didn't even hurt.

How long have you had this bird. I know you think that your bird is totally comfortable with you, but just because she likes you, doesn't mean she is comfortable enough to step up. Sometimes, it is kind of like a little kid on a diving board, who really wants to jump and keeps climbing the board, only to chicken out or cry once up there.

Can he fly well? If not he might be afraid of falling.
