I have not seen mine do that but if she did I would probably pick her up. She may be asking to go back into her cage...but I'm totally guessing.

Mild case of toe tap?!

Are their other instances where the bird seems to have involuntary movement of the foot?

What is the diet like? What are you feeding the bird? Toe tap is generally related to diet.

I've searched videos on toe tapping and it seems different. She has a strict diet of fruit in the morning and veggies for dinner. No seed at all. Half a tablespoon of plain pellets for daytime snacking. She only seems to do it before she tucks her foot under to rest. It's got me completely baffled ��

This is indeed toe tapping. Not all ekkis that toe tap do so on a surface.

It's very mild, but it looks like it to me. It's not the full blown horrible case...

Which means there's something triggering it in the diet. Tweak it just a bit, and it will probably stop.

I'd discontinue the pellets entirely myself. I'd bet that's the trigger right there.

She can give you Eckie diet insights that can probably eliminate this entirely.

Almost ALL of them do this at one point or another in their life. Don't panic or kick yourself. They eat something they shouldn't and for a few days, to a few weeks, this happens. (Too much corn triggered it in my foster Eckie hen.)

They're diet sensitive birds. And yours is beautiful, and in perfect feather. It just means mild tweaking of the diet... that's all.

This is MILD. And Like I said, it's probably the pellets... Eckie's generally don't do well on pellets. They don't process the "vitamin enriched" stuff very well. They get too much of something in their system, and then stuff like this happens. Once it goes through their system, it stops.

Laura can probably give you a chop recipe that will eliminate this kind of stuff once and for all...

Thank you, I try so hard to make sure she is eating right and to know she is toe tapping is disheartening. At least I know now and hopefully fix it xx

Sometimes even too much of a good thing with eclectus can cause toe tapping. Do you feed a lot of corn? There are eclectus that for one reason or another become very sensitive to it. I also would suggest ditching the pellets.

You can feed Volkman seed for Eclectus at night a small amount, it would be a much better alternative than pellets. If you can't get the Volkman brand then a good quality seed with no fortification or added vitamins and no peanuts.

Dark leafy greens like dandelion, kale, arugula, collard green, mustard greens should be offered at both the morning and afternoon chop meal as well as many high beta-carotene foods. Sprouts are a great living food. Google 'Sprout people' their website is very informative and shows you just how easy it is to sprout. Brown rice and quinoa with the veggies including the greens chopped small insures that they will eat more of everything rather than picking out their favorite thing.

Oh yes, she loves corn!! She has that every night. Her preferred veg. I thought corn was good for them. Can I get Volkham seed here in Australia? I may need to research. I will definitely get rid of the pellets. Is millet spray ok? She hasn't had it yet but I've read that is good for them too .

Another thing that I learned when I had mine...

Keep a food diary. Nothing fancy, just a notebook of what you fed her that day.

That way if something like Toe Tap suddenly comes up, you can look and say...

Oh, I gave her corn yesterday. NO WONDER!

It's a good way to tweak the diet, when you're not sure what's causing it.

Then when the behavior STOPS...

Ah-hah! This is what works for my bird!
