lovebirds (2)
I recently bought a female love bird for my male. His previous partner died. The two birds get along very well and they seem very happy. They're not really tame... I don't spend enough time with them and I'm reluctant to force the issue. They scream if I leave the room. The male will sit on my computer as i'm working and the female will come out of her box when I call her name.

My question is, how old does she have to be before she starts breeding? She's been laying eggs and I really don't want baby birds. We just love these two! She loves her breeding box. They both sit in there at night and often during they day. She also hoards toys in the box, so I'm reluctant to remove it.

Do I just keep removing the eggs? Does anyone have helpful suggestions to discourage the breeding? Thanks for your help!:whiteblue::whiteblue:

remove the breeding box - they will only mate and have babies. No nest nowhere to have them - simple as that sorry

Your gonna turn her into a excessive egg layer by constantly tossing out the eggs. Please do remove the nest box if you don't want babies! Excessive egg laying will give her a higher chance of egg binding due to depletion on calcium within her body.

Yes, remove the breeding box and hope she doesn't just start laying eggs in the corner of the cage. And get her some cuttlebone or a mineral block so she has access to calcium.
I'd wait until the female is 18-24 months before I'd consider breeding.
