Tuukee loves preening me, but when i try to help him- he does not like to be pet, smooches are def. ok, but sometimes he'll let me pet. i have to admit: i was trying the first time to help him, he turned his head, and i accidentally pulled out the feather, and i know birds remember, so did i ruin our relationship for the extra bonding w the allopreening? i want to help him with the itches, but i can only really help when we do our nighttime routine- [he gets uuber lovey] and i can do it then but it never lasts more than a minute. =[

ive praised him when he lets me do it, and i let him watch me w the other babies: the hand petting, kisses-- all that jazz, and still- he doesn't really let me touch him, he'll sit w me, snuggle, sleep on me, play with me.

how do i gain his trust?

Time a patience is the only way to gain a bird's trust & just keep doing what you have been to win him over.....

Most human slaves don't realize it, but stroking/rubbing a bird on its back & under its wings are actions normally left to a bird's mate & we human slaves should not be doing it...even if the bird encourages/allows it, because you are not in a position to fulfill the bird's expectations and hormonally frustrated birds can be a bit difficult.....and this is the mating season for many parrot species.....

Good luck.....

It sounds like you have a good healthy relationship! Your doing good.
