this african grey is not mine but this owner.This owner is looks like he is a good avain owner(I hope) however if his bird does not find a GOOD home in the week she will be sent to an avain shelter.

I can't take care of this bird I know the requirements of taking care of 1 (diet,training, environment,signs, reinforcing bad habits,etc.) my parents hates bird and besides she has non stick oil pans which kill birds.

But enough about that, I just keep my eye on this parrot everyday hoping she will find a great home and now she might live in a avain shelter and get a stress disorder! Here is the link to this parrot.

I'm sure a young AG like that will find home without too much trouble. I hope he finds a good owner who is allowed birds in their home.

The man's situation totally sucks. He goes out of his way to find his bird and buys this really nice cage and prepares for her then is in trouble for having her in his apartment. I don't know about Canada apartment rule and such but I was able to rent an apartment with a cockatiel in a no pet apartment because birds were in cages (or something like that) and didn't cause the damage cats and dogs have potential to. Granted that was about 20 years ago so things may of changed for birds but I would think he would of checked out pet rules of his apartment complex before expending all the energy and expense getting his baby Grey. His situation totally sucks.

I also can understand wanting to "recoup" the monies he put into getting his bird and have even discounted the cost to help sell her faster but now he has opened himself up for someone who will purchase the bird who would not be looking out for her best interest. Also depending on where he would surrender her avian rescues do a lot of good work finding the parrot the best possible home for her so that is not an all bad thing. He would just lose his investment in her, cage and her belongings.

helpthisgrey - If it comes to where she has to be surrendered I hope he choose a "avian rescue" that is reputable. They not only take unwanted parrots but do the work of "rehab" if needed, will vet the parrot, screen carefully of potential adopters to make sure she goes to the best possible home that will be a forever home. Personally I an working with two different rescues into adoption of my second parrot. I want to help a parrot in need of a home instead of buying a baby from a breeder. Both the rescues I am working with are awesome organizations and are in it for the welfare of the parrot and for the love of parrots. They are in it for the right reasons so for example the above Grey ends up on their type of rescue this grey would be taken care of very well and because they know how to care for parrots she would not "get a stress disorder" because they have the knowledge of how to handle her and take care of her and I guarantee she would not be in rescue very long at all. She is also young enough to be able to handle change without much stress if she was bred ethically from someone who knows Greys.

I emailed the owner and he is sending the bird to a shelter in newfoundland, ;ets hope for a happy ending!

Actually, going to a shelter may be a blessing in disguise for this bird. Unlike dog/cat shelters, avian shelters do not routinely kill their animals (especially a healthy, young, well loved bird). Even "unadoptables" are not put down, rather sent to avian sanctuaries to live out the rest of their days. Avian shelters are specialized to birds, so the bird will receive good care during it's stay. Most avian shelters have a very difficult adoption process, so only dedicated, experienced people willing and able to provide a forever home are able to adopt parrots. Many shelters have a volunteer foster network, so it's quite possible the bird will live in a domestic home environment rather than a shelter environment until it is adopted. While there are always some "bad ones", the vast majority of avian shelters are very good to their animals and do whatever possible to make sure the birds end up in a permenant home. If he had tried to rehome the bird privately, there is a much greater chance it would be passed around another few homes. It's sad he is loosing his bird, but he's probably done the best thing for it going the route he did.

We adopted our BFA through an avian shelter. Lots of people on this forum have adopted some/all of their parrots. There are a surprising amount of people who want to expand their "flocks" and will only take in rehomes.

Perhaps I'm alone here, but while I feel bad for the bird, I don't feel bad for the owner. Part of being a responsible owner is making sure you can have the pet in the first place. 100% his own doing by simply not reading his lease or asking the landlord. Working at an animal shelter, probably the top give-up reason is "landlord issues" and the vast majority of them could have been prevented by the owner reading their lease, or not trying to hide a pet they know they can not have.

I hope the bird finds a wonderful new permanent home.

I wish I knew of someone in Nova Scotia, my husbands family is from there.

Newfoundland is a gorgeous province, with wonderful down to earth people, hopefully he will find a good home from there.
