1 green cheek conure
Hi,
So there is a lost racing pigeon outside my door I put some food and water out but feel bad leaving him... My first concern is for my green cheek so I don't want to bring this pigeon inside incase of communicable disease. Any opinions on what I should do? Bare in mind it is 8pm where I live

Do you have a spare cage and a garage or at least a covered area to put it in.

As long as you don;t put it near you green cheek, a separate room and make sure you wash your hands after you touch the pigeon, and disinfect anything before it goes near you beloved bird, overnight it should be okay. As mentioned do you have a garage or enclosed porch or even a safe room it could stay for the night?

Here - the MSPCA Angell Memorial in Boston (near me) has an Emergency helpline number, they would be happy to talk you through this ... 617-522-7282 (press 1)

Thanks for responding... It flew to a neighbors balcony when I tried to get it. I'm waiting on my porch now to see if he will come back (He seems to already be trying to roost though)... I have a dog crate that I will put him in if I can get him.

Thank you for caring! Do racing pigeons have ID bands to assist finding their homes?

There is a chance that he is hungry and thirsty, probably used up too much energy. They usually just eat and drink and then go on their merry way, so I wouldnt bring the bird in but make food and water available in a place that is safe but accessible.
