green cheek conure lovingly known as 'bird'
at the beginning of summer i bought a green cheek conure.(my first bird!) he's very sweet and very cute, i love him to death. a little bit ago we brought him to the bird store and one of the employees had said he's very small compared to hers, but it just might be that's how he is. it got me thinking about his eating habit though- and i don't see him eating a lot. from his food he really only eats the little bit of seeds, then he leaves it. he used to eat much more the first couple months i had him. what should i be doing?
he's one year old and is a green cheek conure / sun conure mix (from what i've heard. i think thats true because he's got yellow feathers on his back! it makes him very special and even cuter)

Check his weight on a gram scale, and keep monitoring him. If he's losing any weight take him to a vet immediately. Pay attention to everything he eats. Are his poops normal? If he's definately eating less he needs to get to a vet ASAP. Just a few seeds a day is definately not normal. Are seeds all he has access to?

He's a green cheek conure, not a hybrid. Well, at least not that kind of hybrid! Sun x green cheek hybrids are very "dull" looking green birds. They are essentially oversized green cheek conures that look "off". Here's photos of two different green cheek x sun hybrids.

So just take the yellow spots as abnormal specking as long as he's healthy!!!!

Now as far as size, there are different subspecies of green cheek conures. I don't know if there are any pure subspecies left in the USA, as they may be hybrids of the various subspecies. As such, colors and size will vary between the green cheeks. They can vary in weight from 50-80 grams, although most green cheeks tend to be on the smaller side.

This website may be of help.

So as long as your green cheek is of a healthy weight, I would say to not be concerned about it!

no, he has access to more than seeds. he has dried fruit and veggies and all that stuff. i'll need to weigh him soon, then. see where he's at there. if he's underweight i'll see a vet.
