Hello! I have a question to ask. I have a severe macaw and he is injured. I was in my room, he was in the living room. I went to go get him and he had flew into the other room. When I picked him up I noticed his eye was red. When I looked closer I saw that he had a cut on the white part. My question is, how serious is this? Can I do anything like clean it and put antiseptic on it? I want to take him to the vet but money is tight. Please help!!!!

It wouldn't hurt to call an a-vet and ask for suggestions.

Some aloe vera gel or an antibiotic cream (not ointment) can be used, and just keep an eye on the area.

If the area is bleeding or swollen, you could add a small amount of cayenne pepper mixed with water to the area.

The Kitchen Physician Herbal Remedies for Parrots

CAYENNE -- The active ingredient, capsaicin, is an appetite stimulant and a good natural treatment for sinus congestion in parrots. Used topically, it is an anti-inflammatory agent. Parrots enjoy its fiery taste.

I'd try the cayenne pepper on your own eye before putting it on your birds eye. Call a Avian vet.

Get some Vetericyn Ophthalmic Gel or eye wash. That is what I use to treat eye issues for all my animals. It is safe to use on birds too!!! There was seed hull in one of my bird's eye yesterday so I cleaned it out by rinsing it and use this on it. I used it to treat my dog before with issue with his eyes and it worked like a charm. I keep it in my animal medicine cabinet.

^^^^ That is some AWESOME stuff right there. :) ^^^^
....I have SUPER sensitive eyes, and believe it or not, I use this myself. :54:

I've also used it for my birds and dogs. Simply fantastic!!

There is always the chance of something else being wrong other than the cut. If money is tight speak to the vet directly about your money problems and see what solutions he could offer you.

i would use what Mikey said. i want to buy some myself:) just in case. where do you get it?

I got it at a feed store, you can check places like tractor supply. IF not you can order it online.
