Hi everyone.

Me and my girlfriend are at a loss.

We got a black capped conure about 3 months ago, his name is Hyde.
When we first got him he was fine, after settling in we started to teach him tricks,he loved being stroked and played with. But then he started to peck at his tail feathers. so we took him to the vet who said not to worry.

We actually got 2 conures but only took one home, so we could introduce them and train them seperatly becuase during training they would fight.

we have now brought jekyll home to keep hyde company.

The Problem.

hyde has pecked at his tail feathers so much it looks like frayed wire, and he now has NO tail feathers. He still steps up, and seems to eat fine, but wont let either of us stroke him any more??? as soon as we get near him to stroke him he starts trying to bite. he seems aggitated, his feathers fluff up and he seems to move his head very quickly in a "attack".

Jekyll is a bit better but we haven't fully trained him yet so not worring to much. his fathers are fine?

They have regular baths, and we also spray them once a day.

Food.
We feed them jungle munchies and they get fresh fruit and nuts at least once a week. water changed daily.

Please help? - i have included some photos.

also we are thinking of getting the guide from Parrot Training Tips To Fix Your Pet Parrots Problems | Birdtricks.com, any advice?

Could be a few things.
Do you give him enough attention? Sounds like you do...
Also, when you say you seperate them...
Is this most of the time? Maybe this is caused from not seeing his/her friend/mate.
If they're attatched to eachother theres not much you can do besides put them together, which will probably stop the feather plucking, if this is the case.
Otherwise, I'm not sure. I'm sure you'll get some more detailed and experinced answers soon.
Good luck

Just a guess, perhaps they simply find each other a disturbance and vent the frustration through the feather abuse?
I have an Amazon that will become extremely aggressive if a banana gets too close to him. Birds react funny sometimes.
Perhaps keeping you conures out of sight from each other might help if that is indeed the problem.
Again, I'm no expert, it's just a guess. :]

Best of luck to you though.

I'm wondering if ur bird has a favorite yourself or your girlfriend i own a conure Jenna my husband bought her 4 me and she just hates me, attacks the cage when i walk by fluffs up and makes weard noises when i hug or kiss him, maybe just a guess ur birds jelious and wants ur attention all to his or her self... I'm no expert either but just food for thought...
