Hi All
I am thinking of getting a pair of Alexandrines.
Can someone tell me what is the best age to get if I want them to breed this season. Someone told be they start breeding at around 18 month's but that don't sound right to me, also do they pair for life?
Thanks.

Have never raise Alexandrines, but the males don't start getting their rings until around 18 months & usually aren't in their adult feathering until they're 2-3 years old, so I doubt any hens would be choosing males that are too young.....IMHO.....

Also, breeding season for these birds is November thru March, I believe...and the pairs that I have set up usually need some time to get used to each other.....I used to give them a year before setting new pairs up.....

Pushing breeders can cause problems or cause fighting between the birds.....

Our Alexandrine Kosh is about 3 years old and he is certainly thinking about Love he adores the greennecked parakeet Merlin who he shares the cage with. She can be quite mean to him but he still loves her and he is very cooie with her. This has mainly happened in the last 12 months. He did not get his neck markings until he was 2 years old.
I would think they would be breed at about 2-3 years.:green2:
