Rosy-faced lovebird
Budgie
Hello. I have a rosy-faced lovebird. He is around one and a half years old. My bird is hand-trained, was in good health and had a very good appetite. It's been a month that he eats less than usual and i have newly noticed that he has lost a lot of weight. He is still active but more aggressive and defensive when i try to go near. He insists on being in the kitchen next to the stove. I wonder if that is because he is unwell and feeling cold, hence looking for warmth or he saw his reflection on one of the utensils and thinks there is a friend there. If anyone has had the same experience before and would like to share it, i would be really grateful. Thank you.

Weight loss is often the first measurable sign of illness in parrots and by the time they are dropping weight, they are very sick indeed. Strongly suggest you get your little one checked out by a Certified Avian vet, and soon. They hide the signs of illness so well, but weight loss can't be hidden.

Also hearing your lovebird stays “near the stove” makes me worried that he’s indeed lost enough weight that he’s cold. I think your bird could be sick. Healthy birds should maintain their weight if other things in life stay the same.

How is your lovebird doing now?

P.s.that is one CUTE lovebird! Please take care of him.
