Hey everyone! I need your guy's help with a documentary I'm making for Drama class. I need to make an inspirational movie and have decided to make one based on the captive parrots in society today. I will be covering information on abused, rehomed, abandoned, well taken care of, famous, and parrots who are considered cheep pets.

I would like to get testimonies from you guy to put into the documentary. I know you guys are so full of knowledge and can be a great help. The point of this documentary is not to convince people to get a parrot but to inform them of the difficulties and responsibilities of owning one.

I'm going to be visiting local pet stores and bird organizations and interviewing them too. I'm also hoping to visit a home where I know there are three abused macaws. I want to help them and I hope the owner will reach out and take my help.

Here is what I need from you guys: What are your overall personal experiences with birds?(Please include years of ownership, what species, positive AND negative outcomes and experiences)

Have you changed since owning your first bird? (Ex:you didnt know they needed toys but the parakeet you had when you were little was stuck in a cage and left with only seed and water)

What bird organization are you a part of? What kind of work do they do with birds?

Have you ever bred birds? (Species, outcome, years of breeding, reason why)

You work in a pet store that has a Macaw for sale. A person with no bird experience has the money and wants to buy it. Would you sell the bird to them?

The same person who wanted the macaw, wants to now buy a parakeet. Would you let them buy it?

I would also like any uncommon facts that you guys happen to know. The more facts I can get into this the more I can help all birds. Also if you have ever had an experience with an abused bird, or known someone who has, please tell that also. I really want this to make an impact on people. I'll post it on youtube when its done so that the world can see what a difference we can make. I have a few months to do this so I'm hoping its good!

Thanks in advance everyone!

Wow this sounds like an awesome project! I'm sure yours will be the best in the whole class. It's really late right now and I'm tired but I will be sure to post tomorrow about my experiences with birds as I have a lot to say!

Thanks alot! I dont mind. I'm going to start going around next week to pet stores and what not. I suspect people have ALOT to day about their birds lol. Although its a lost of info to take in I cant wait to get it all!

Oh wow, how cool is this....I will have to write some things down for you...if I may add one thing.....I think it is so important that people do their homework before getting a bird....and I mean, really find out about the species they want to get....I think this would lead to way less rehomes..Just my humble opinion, not trying to upset anyone here. Good luck with your project...sounds like a big one. ..

im doing a progect on walt disney just thought i might say did you know he is afraid of mice

I'm not sure how that is relevant to birds but thats pretty cool lol

I saw this person on another forum, www.fortheloveofbirds.com. She has more parrots than I could believe. (all rescues) I see the attraction of having alot, I just don't see how you guys do it. Merlin keeps me busy fulltime & he's very jealous of my attention. How do you balance your time between birds & still make everyone feel special?
