HElP!!! Egg laying lovebird

So i found out that my lovebird is a girl today! She layed an egg. I know it is not fertil and wont hatch. This explains her extremly odd behavior lately. She has been really protective of the litle house she sleeps in i now know that is because she was thinking of it a a nest box. I had also found her mating with a toy a cople of times. I promtly removed the toy. And i have now removed the hut too. I took the egg.
How do I discorage this behavior? It is very cold here at night and even though i cover her cage she still needs the hut. But i can't put it back in. So what should i do?
Is it lovebird mating season? just wondering.
Any help or advice is welcome!! I really dont want the behavior to go any farther.

I think that the best thing to do is to leave the egg with her, and let her take care of it, she will eventually tire of it and then you can remove it. I had the same problem with my Fischer lovebirds, but the situation was different because they are a bonded pair, but full brother and sister from different clutches, so I couldn't allow the risk of hatchlings. My advice is to leave the eggs with her, by removing them what you are inadvertently doing is encouraging her to lay more. She'll be fine, tire of them, and then the episode will naturally be over.

Alternatively, you could buy some dummy eggs and switch out her real eggs with them as they lay. Here is a website that sells them:

I would give the toy back cause she will just pick another toy or even perch. what is instigating this is the house female birds especially lovebirds go into instant breeding mode when thet get a hut or sleepy place even though you want her to be comfy and warm but its ok she will be fine withought one they keep warm easy and she will be happy on a perch and covering thw cage hwlps kep her warm and snuggly withouht the breeding mode kicking in. I would let her sit on it til she looses interest and be sure to give her extra calcium she will need it a lot now cause she layed an egg you can mix in a calcium fortified food with her own now or give her boiled eggs crushed up shell and all and she will probably be very mean during this time so just wait it out good luck.

Like prior post have said, leave her eggs be and allow her to incubate until past the normal due date for hatching. Then remove the house and the eggs all together. I have seen female lovebirds that keeps on laying more when her existing ones aren't hatching.

I would put it back in too, my birds would be very upset if they didn't have a place to crawl into, and she's a single bird so that would help her to stay warm as well.
