Pico - yellow sided GCC
okay,
I'm a little worried that my Pico has just thrown up. Although before I frantically ran to the forums.. I read a little bit about regurgitating which i'm guessing, is a lot less serious than throwing up for a bird.
basically, Pico is acting completely normal. other than the fact that he just bobbed his head and spewed up seeds. the seeds seemed to be pretty in tact. just chewed and semi slimy.. no liquid just solid matter. it doesn't seem to have an odor, and it was only a little bit. Is he okay??? is this normal? please help!

Totally normal. He was trying to share. It's a bit gross but a friendly gesture.

there is a small yet somewhat sure way to tell if he is just regurgitating or if hes actually throwing up

if regurgitating he should act like hes trying to throw up (bobbing head) and he'll usually do it on your hand (or anywhere on you/favorite toy), it will look clean and he'll probably wont get any on himself. if actual throw up it would be less dramatic/trying to hide the fact hes throwing up and he'll most likely shake his head from side to side (like nodding your head "no") and will most likely be messy and get it everywhere ( on his face ect.) most likely he will become lethargic after.

Venus regurgs, once in my hair. When she starts acting like she's going to regurg, I put her back in her cage. She hasn't done it as much so that's my gentle way of discouraging it. There's nothing like feeling something wet and mushy on your ear, then you reach up and you have mush in your fingers, hair and ear, lol. You definitely know you are loved!

I've heard you should discourage this behavior by ignoring the bird in the moment that it regurgitates (I read that regurgitating can lead to hormonal behavior, hormonal aggression, and possibly becoming egg-bound). Not sure if any of that is true, but I would recommend contacting an avian vet and asking what they think. Good luck! I'm glad your baby is okay!
