Marley - African grey
Petrie - yellow sided conure
Hi everyone!
I'm new to this website but I'm hoping to get some advice.
My Congo is 19 months old, he's a right character, naughty but very loving.
For the past week he's not said a word ( he usually never shuts up) he's still his naughty self, he looks well (his eyes, ears and nose are clean, eyes are bright, he's eating normally, his poops are normal, he's still taking care of his feathers)
But I'm worried about his sudden silence. There are alot of feathers floating around the house at the moment and his prooning is constant so I don't know if his molting and that's what's bothering him.

Anyone else had this problem?
He's due to see a vet but the avian vet is on holiday till next week but I'm scared of leaving him.
If anyone can give some advice I'd be very grateful.

Hi and welcome
Do you see any bald spots visible? that would be due to plucking
It sure sounds like Marley is molting, from the description of "floating" feathers.
A good sign he is eating and his droppings are normal.
Some birds become moody, some become quiet when molting.
Give Marley extra love and attention as molting can be quite stressful and painful.

Antoinette is probably right about your CAG moulting, it is that time of the year for feather changing for most parrot species.....during this period, many birds have a temporary change in their habits & attitudes.

Like Ant said, everything you've said looks like a normal moulting.....so, I think you can wait until your avian vet returns from holiday.

I'd give Ant the benefit of the doubt on this.....she's been owned by & a slave to her own grey for a few years now.....

Thank you both very much.
He hasn't got any bare patches that I can see, I don't think he's the type to pluck he's terrified of feathers haha!
