Hi Guys
My name is Lynnii and I have a beautiful Indian ring neck male 3 yrs old.
i have so many questions but my first question is about behavior.
can anybody tell me why he may be doing the following -
he will not allow us to pick him up, but when he is let out of his cage he comes and sits on my head then moves onto my shoulder and then makes a loud noise his head goes back his wings widen then his bows his head and his beak touches my cheek, he clicks his beak and then repeats.... he does not bite me. he then pushes his chest against my face and makes beak clicking noises again.
he does not bite any of my family. i really don't understand his behavior, if i go and pick him up, he flies away...!!:blue2::blue2:

Sounds like he thinks your head is rather sexy, but hands are freaky!

Welcome to the forums, Lynnii!!

Have you had your IRN since he was young? I assume he was hand-fed, but is perhaps not finger-tame. His cage is likely an area of safety and security, yet he is not frightened of people. The behavior you describe is likely a mating or courtship ritual, but to be honest I have no experience with that species.

Although he seems respectful, be aware the shoulder is generally a privileged position for trusted birds. While he may have not given you reason for pause, please be careful!!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Great advice above, so I will just say that I would love to see a picture of your boy:) Glad you joined us!

It is classic IRN courtship behavior. I had a pair and the boy would do this when the hen was ready to breed :)
