Hi, my name is Tony. I have two green cheek conures, Ruby and Tommy. Tommy is a yellow sided (I think). Tommy is a well behaved boy. Ruby is a rescue who is still wary of hands but has come a long way since we got her. Anyway, looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Welcome, Tony, Ruby and Tommy! Beautiful birds!

Welcome Tony!
Both your birds are gorgeous little fluffs and i agree with you if Tommy is the bottom photo (lovely looking yellow-sided) but Ruby (assuming the top is her) isn't a green cheek. Someone might know better but I'd put money on Ruby being a Black Capped Conure. They're in the same part of the conure family tree but Black caps have a dash of red on the top of they wings and pointed chest feathers (which is what Ruby looks like to me from your photo).

The only thing throwing me is Ruby's feathers around her ear, normally Black Caps don't have markings there, while Green Cheeks do but I didn't think it got that pronounced. But i making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Yours conures look adorable.

Thanks everyone!

ZephyrFly, thanks you've sparked some interest. We never quite knew what she was. I looked up black capped conures and seeing her in person compared to descriptions and pictures I'm don't think she matches. I did find some info on pearly conures and I'm fairly certain that is what she is, including the bluish green face (doesn't show well in that picture but I'll try to get a better one) and the white tufts behind the ears.

You're right! Sorry I'm not an expert :p but you are absolutely right, she does look like a pearly.
I've heard of pearly conures but I've heard/seen people talk about black caps more, so I just instantly thought of the wrong one. Opps :S

But you can say with confidence now what she is! A bundle of fluff.

How long have you had your little chubs anyway?

We've had Tommy for three years. He was re homed to us at about two years old. Ruby has a rough past. She is two and a half and we've had her a little over two years now. We were at a pet store and decided to look at the birds while there. She had destroyed her tail and wing feathers and her other feathers were ragged and spotted. We asked about her and they said that had gotten her head stuck in a metal ring and had to have it pried off. They said she had been terrified of hands and destroyed her feathers ever since. So of course we had to rescue her. She is still terrified of hands but her feather problems are over and she is on a healthy diet. She won't step up but will let you pick her up when she's out of the cage and doesn't bite. She still has cage aggression but let's me reach in and change her food and toys. Every day she gets more comfortable.

That's lovely, thank you for taking them in. You both are so lucky, you for finding them and them for being rescued.
