My name is Al aka Herper(person into reptiles). I am interested in getting a Dusky headed conure. From what I have read they seem closest to what I want. I like that they are intelligent and cuddly. As I just lost my wife less then a year ago the affection of a pet will do me good. Any advise s welcome and opinions on what conure to get is appreciated. Basically want a playful, loving, intelligent bird, and one of the less noisy breeds would be a good thing. Yes I know parrots are not quite pets and every bird has its own habits. Thanks
Al

Hi there, Al! Pleased to meet you.

The Dusky-headed conure is a a great bird, and a good choice for someone who wants a cuddly bird.

I will warn you though, Dusky conures are not the quietest of the conures. They are actually members of the noisiest conure family; the Aratinga family. Aratingas are noisier because they are very closely related to the Macaws, while the Pyrrhura family is not. If you want something quieter, but don't want ot sacrifice the cuddliness; I'd reccomend a member of the Pyrrhura family. Good choices would be a Green-cheeked, Moroon-bellied, or Crimson-bellied Conures. Read more about the Aratingas here: Aratinga Conures as Pets

Understand that each bird is an individual, and you may end up with a bird who dislikes being cuddled. You never know, so it's hard to put a 'general' trait on a bird.

thanks, everything I have been reading says Duskys are one of the quietest conures. I tend to trust owners especially those on forums because of the range of opinions and experience. gotta spend time with the animal and learn ts behaviors first.
