Hello everyone. :) just introducing myself and my Indian ringneck Snickers..
We live in Perth, Western Australia and we are entering our summer..

I inherited Snickers from a friend who is a huge bird lover after he was found but was unable to locate his owners.. I have had Snickers for approximately a year now..
We live in the foothills of Perth in a very old fibro cement home.. Which has no insulation and no air-conditioners, so is freezing in winter and roasting in summer..

Snickers lives in a big cage, which I bring inside for the winter months and pop out on the fully sheltered verandah for the summer months...
He is a wonderful boy, although I think his last owners thought he was a girl cause he quite often says " who's a pretty girl" :) :)
The last couple of weeks I've noticed that he is not talking as much and he certainly has a pretty wide vocabulary...
I've also noticed that he is loosing quite a lot of feathers and that his feathers seem to be changing colour...????

Any ideas...:)

He's going through his molt right now....The feather color changing can be a concern due to their health and diet. But with all the different mutation now days, some colors can pop out for no apparent reason. A visit to the vet wouldn't be a bad thing!

I thought that he may be going through his molt.. Do you know how long it may take to molt?

Hello and Welcome! Snickers is beautiful, I love his coloring. It's hard to predict how long a molt will last, from a couple of weeks to months. Frequent baths while molting can help your bird to shed the feather sheaths and make him more comfortable.
