I just wanted to introduce myself and get to know you all since I'm sure I'll be browsing here a lot...
The only experience that I have with larger birds is during the day at work where we have six of them. Visiting them during the day is a lot different than having one 24/7. Yes, I had fed them, held them and talked to them but I had never been responsible for them. I did know that I absolutely loved them. They are the highlight of my day when I go to work.
Back in December, I heard of a 15 year old Yellow Crowned Amazon that needed a new home. I had been researching and toying with the idea of getting a bird at home but I hadn't made up my mind on what kind I wanted. I hadn't even considered getting an Amazon, I was thinking about a smaller bird.
I went to meet her and ended up bringing her home with me. We've had her almost three weeks now and absolutely love her (bites and all - we're still learning). The deal was that we would take her home on a trial basis and if we weren't a good match for each other, I would take her back. We'll keep her.
Nancy (me) and Nancy (the bird - still debating giving her a nickname)
