Ziva - Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
Hello everyone, I have been reading these forums for the last few days and decided to join. I currently have no birds (but I do have many other animals). In the past I have had a lot of birds and hand raised some too. I also helped out in a wildlife rehab center and fed many different species of orphaned and injured birds, from sparrows to owls. As pets I have had a few different species of finches (silverbill, society, zebra and european goldfinch), button quails, parakeets (budgies, I had a few breeding pairs and hand raised many) cockatiels, a lovebird and a dusky conure that was found in a park with kids throwing rocks and sticks at it. It's been years since I have had any birds and I really miss them. So my boyfriend and I are looking into getting a green cheek conure soon. That is what let me to this wonderful site. Like I said I have many other pets. Dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats, a bearded dragon, a spider ball python and four fish tanks (55 gallon, 30 gallon, 10 gallon and a 5.5 gallon) I am home all day so am able to devote many hours to the conure.

One thing I am really interested in learning about is a natural way of feeding. I feed all my animals a raw and/or natural diet. From my dogs down to my fish. I grow a lot of veggies and flowers for my guinea pigs, rats and bearded dragon. Then I freeze and dehydrate the extra from them to eat over the winter. I want to do the same for my bird. Anyway, I need to go feed my dogs now. Besides, I think I may have wrote a bit more then I intended to.

Oh, an my name is Anna.

Hey Anna, welcome to the forum. I think a GCC would be lucky to find you, sounds like you'll make a great birdie mama. Many of us have looked for the perfect diet for our companion parrots.Things have changed a lot in the last 40 yrs that i've had a parrot.Nowdays the best diet seems to be pelleted food that has most of the trace min/vit that birds need along with the correct ratio of fats and proteins for different species.the pellets usually make up 70%(more or less) of their diets suppelmented with fresh veggies, fruits, nuts and sprouted seeds/peas. They're some good threads about diet in many different sections of the forum. Check though some of the older threads and ask questions if you have them. Lots of great members here who love to help and also learn new things about keeping their fids happy and healthy.Glad to have you here and hope to see you around.

Thanks for the welcome and info. I plan of feeding (at least some) pellets. I have been reading about the Chop diet made up of mostly grains and fresh veggies and some fruits. I think that is the way I want to go. My cats, dogs and ferrets are fed a 100% raw diet, no kibble at all. Some of the animal were older when switched, and even though they were healthy before I saw a huge improvement in them. I know this way of feeding is not for everyone, and not everyone agrees with it, but it works for me and my critters.
