Hi,

I just wanted to put up some pictures of my Senegal Stevie. Hes had a tough life and he is sadly a plucker. I've tried loads of things with him but I'm always up for new ideas.
He does not like human contact and has spent the last 5 years avoiding me. He is good in that he doesn't bite. Stevie is fairly antisocial. He has attacked several foster puppys over the years and really goes after the other birds even the african grey who he now shares a room with! (in seperate cages)

He used to be a primary wing plucker but over the last two months he has started on his chest and the top of his wings. Poor little thing.
He loves his daily bath and has a varied diet. I have finnaly got him intrested in toys over the last few months! Im sure its only because hes been watching the african Grey.
As soon as the grey is out of his cage Stevie is straight in there to play with his toys! Cheeky thing.
Anyway here are a few pics of Stevie

when I first got him

Hi Cass,
Thanks for the links I'll have a read through. He has been seen by my avian vet and we have talked about medicating him. He was originally an aviary hatched bird, then put into a particularly bad pet shop. While in the shop he was man handled, the cage rattled and then some kids tried to steal him by grabbing him out of his cage and stuffing him in their jacked. He was then chased round the shop as he tried to get away from the people by kids, adults lots of screaming and shouting.
When I went into the shop ( I like to keep an eye on the animals) he was rocking back and forth in his cage screaming. I made a complaint to the shop owner and he gave me stevie. Told me to take him because he was no good for selling after all that.
Since then he did recover but dispite seeming fairly good in himself by exploring and testing new things that he would have never gone near before he has now started plucking his chest and upper wings. Hes just got his white down feathers left at the moment.

Anyway, I'll stop rambleing! Thanks for the links
x

I am so glad Stevie is in your loving capable care, to be treated like that it's horrendous. No wonder the bird is so traumatized.
Happy he visited the vet, what med's did the vet mention?
Hopefully in time things will turn around for Stevie, and he lives a long happy life. ;)

It sounds like the exposure to your African Gray (with cage between) is really good for Stevie. Hope the plucking eases as he gets busier with his toys.
