Punku - Green Cheeked Conure
Hello everyone!

This is the first forum I've ever been a part of and I'm super excited to get involved with this community.

In early March, my coworker Kay brought in her adorable parrotlet, Peapod. My boyfriend and I instantly fell in love with her, even though neither of us ever considered ourselves 'bird people.' She was sweet and cute as a button.

We did some research on parrotlets and decided we were going to get one. Unfortunately when we went to the breeder, none of them captured our hearts and we went home empty handed. A few days later, Kay suggested we go to the exotic bird store and check out the green cheek(ed) conures. She said there was one in particular that was really sweet and cuddly. When we got there, that specific one was sold, but we held a different one. WE FELL IN COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOVE. We put a deposit down and went home to research GCCs. The next day, we brought our little Punku home.

In two short weeks, he's became a huge part of our family and the apple of our eye! The bf, Jonny, and I have become completely obsessed with reading
everything we can about GCC's and birds in general. I've read several of these posts and can't wait to read more! If any of you have suggestions with specific books, videos, etc, please feel free to share. The more, the better.

Thanks for any tips and insight you offer!

Sarah, Jonny, and Punku! :)

I was never a bird person either, till i got my little GCC, Fiji. He is like my son now! He has changed our lives for the better, and I can't imagine ever being without him now. I love green cheek conures, they have so much personality. This forum has taught me a lot, and I still come here every day and love reading all the posts. I'm working on clicker training with my little guy now. he can do one trick so far.

Congrats on your new baby!

That is so true, Antoinette! Life IS empty without a bird in it!

Jonny and I were talking today about how we can't believe it's only been 2 weeks! It feels like we've had him forever because he's such a big part of our lives now ~ :)

How adorable!!!!

I don't see too many green cheeks with blue in the nape feathers!

I've always been an animal person, and have always loved things that could fly! So I guess it was kind of "natural" for me to get into bird keeping!

Welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your new baby and welcome to the forum:)

Welcome to the forum & welcome to Punku as well! GGCs are awesome little darlings with lots of personality! My girl Peta is 6 yrs old & she has every bit as much spunk as my macaws do. Plus she is a total sweetheart & loves being with her favorite humans.

I look forward to hearing more about Punku as ya'll all grow together in the lifelong relationship you are developing. And seeing lots of pics!
