Sun Conure
Hello everyone,

My name is Holly and I have a 13 month old male sun conure. I brought him only recently for my partner but I have become quiet attached :p

When we went to see him he was quiet friendly the only thing is you couldn't put your hands near him as he's loudly scream and try bite your hands, the only time you could put your hands near him is if he wanted to come to you..so getting him off of you to go back into the cage was not the best experience. Despite that I decided to buy him anyway, the first 24 hours was a real learning experience for him..I am not scared if he was to bite or not but after the first day he stopped, we worked out he was scared of hands because as they told me when he would bite they'd smack him on the beak..he is now 100% fine, he will let you do anything with him even roll him over, onto his back for belly rubs etc..

He is the most sweetest boy in the world, He was being fed a cheap small bird seed but when he came i weaned him onto an organic pellet and fresh fruit..which he loves :orange:

His favorite time is at night because he comes under the blankets with me and goes to sleep, he just loves it and is such a good boy, he is 95% of the time out of his cage..the only time he isn't is if we are not home.

Anyway, that is my essay, lovely to meet you all!!! :orange::orange::orange::orange::orange::orange:

Hello Holly and welcome! What is your Sun's name? I'd love to see pictures of him:) So glad you joined us!

Welcome Holly!!

We would all love to see pics of your guy... all of us have birds, but we love to see pics of everyone else's babies!

Sounds like you took a very scared boy and helped him grow into a fun outgoing guy. Congrats on the addition to your family and for being a loving and patient birdie parent :)

Thank you for the welcome :)

I will post some pictures a little later for you ...he is such a beautiful loving boy

Welcome to the forum!!!

Just letting you know another thing you could do when he won't step off your shoulders is by using a perch. Place it on one side of him while your finger is on the other. He would take your hand over the perch. Or you could teach him to step up onto the perch and ask him to step up onto the perch instead.

Thank you for the advise, We did use the perch for around half a day, we just had to show him that hands are good not bad and we are not out to hurt him, he has been with us for 9 days today and is a completely different boy, I can touch him, pick him up, turn him onto his back give him belly rubs..etc i am very happy with how much he has progressed and mostly of how confident he has become. :)

That's excellent news!!!! I'm glad he turn for the better!!! ;)
