5yr old White-eyed Conure
Hello all, I am a new White-Eyed Conure owner from Ohio. She (or he) was estimated to be 5 years old and is very sweet. I don't think her previous owner socialized her much, but she is coming along slowly. It sppears that she used to pull her feathers out on/around her legs, I hope I can keep her mentally stimulated enough to not want to do that again. They look to be about halfway grown back. I've owned cockatiels in the past and am very happy to have such an amazing creature! I am also open to any name suggestions!
My experience is foremostly with horses, I have a 9 year old race retired Thoroughbred mare I rescued last August and a 20 year old Arabian whom I've had since he was a yearling. We have 2 dogs, a 4 year old Pitbull mix (Zeuss) and an 8 year old Boxer (Fieldy). Oh, and our devil cat Nargharr, I got him as a kitten in May. We are making some progress with getting him safely introduced to the bird, if anyone has suggestions that would be great! :) Thanks!

Beautiful bird you got there!! And LOL Nargharr's picture made me laugh :D Welcome to the forum!!

There is a white-eyed conure in my state that has been on Hoobly for a very long time. He is not tame though, so I guess that is why no one has adopted him :(. The guy is only asking $100 or $150, I think he might have him still. They are rare right?

Beautiful bird ~~ Welcome ^^

Welcome to the forum! Beautiful bird! I couldn't help but start singing Ram Jam's "Black Betty" out loud when I saw your user name. :)

I thought of that song too when I saw your user name. I LOVE THAT SONG!! LOL.

Your bird is so cute. I love the pink feet. For whatever reason I love pink feet on a parrot. My Illiger's macaw had pink feet they were so cute. When I was teaching him recall he would sometimes fly to the head (during the beginning of training) and all you would see is those pink feet coming at your face. LOL

Welcome to the form. We would love to hear more about your parrot.

I figured I would say hello in this thread too. As this bird is also my perrty white-eyed conure. :)

She is a nice bird, but only likes being around males so it gets a little mean with BETTY.

Yes I like the bird. I do not think I have seen one before. What is his history??

Thank you so much! I hadn't seen one either until my mom contacted me about her! She found her at a pet store (of ill repute) in Wooster, OH called "Critters". I've been in there and didn't want to go back, it's heartbreakingly dirty and the animals aren't fed properly, their enclosures are rarely cleaned and the smell...ugh! Not to mention the dead lizards I saw in the drinking water of live ones...and dead mice. I believe they were in the process of being shut down and my mom went in to look at the animals they were getting rid of, this girl was in the corner by herself in a small cage. The owner had very limited information other than she was estimated at 5yr old, the previous owner was getting a divorce and didn't want her anymore. So, naturally my mom took her in and gave her to me!
I've researched on her like crazy and found that the WEC is imported only in small numbers due to low demand from not being as colorful and therefore less popular than other conures. However, they are generally less prone to be screamers and would rather mimic speech, which mine has been daily! I'm excited to learn more about her and very glad she is rescued from that place!

I know the population isn't threatened in their homeland in all of northern South America, people just don't have much interest in them here and they aren't bred by many. :(

Thank you! I'm in love with her! She has a bit of red and alot of yellow under her wings like you can see on this WEC http://www.birdchannel.com/images/species/pet-conure-faq7.jpg but not the red spots on her head other than a tiny smidgen near her eye. And yes her feet are cute! I hope that I can develop as much trust with her to train her recall someday as well!
