Hi fellow bird lovers. Today, I made the decision to buy myself an african grey. I originally went to look at a yellow crowned amazon but deep down inside I always wanted an african grey. This will be my first bird since I was 6-7 years old. I hope that with your help and guidance I can treat her like the princess she is going to be and she can grow to be a loving part of my family. She is only 8 weeks old and so I won't get her until August. I am looking forward to my new princess.

Hey Guys I am getting really nervous. Only 2 weeks to go before I get zoey home. I want her to have a great life and be a great friend to her but I keep reading around the forums about greys plucking feathers and not allowing their adoptive parents to hold them.
I am really nervous!!!

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you're allowing nerves to take over. There are many members here with Greys and from reading their posts, it seems they are great birds. You might try posting a thread in that section (if you haven't already done so) to get some feedback from current owners. I'm sure it'll all work itself out. Goo luck and keep us posted.

Welcome! I have heard that you need to have slow expectations for new greys-give them lots of time to get to know you and trust you. They are not always the type to love you from the moment they come home-but take it easy, show her you are there, you are friendly, she can trust you, and you will be just fine!
