Hi everyone,
I am located in Halifax Nova Scotia and will be getting a green cheek conure in a few weeks.

I had birds before and miss them so much, but this will be my first time owning a conure :)

Tell me about your green cheek conure if you have one. I've done lots of research and it seems like the perfect bird for me.

Thanks for the welcomes!!

I can't wait… unfortunately with the snow we have gotten, we won't be able to pick up our little nugget for at least a few days, even though the weaning process is all done now.

I'll keep you posted :)

I can't wait to meet him (and it's nice to meet you!) be sure and get some pictures of the sweet baby!

Welcome, and good choice of a new buddy!

My conure is the biggest character I ever saw, sincerely. He makes me laugh all the time. Once you get things figured out (because all new birds are a mystery for awhile) you'll love it. We were lounging around eating take out tonight and he was on my shoulder as I stood at the counter. He ran down my chest and literally stole food out of my hand before I realize what he was up to. I had my sandwich in my hand and he ripped a piece of bun off and ran back to my shoulder with it. He soooo did not look ashamed of himself whatsoever as he sat there chewing up bun all over my sweater.

Welcome! I'm from Nova Scotia as well. c:

Yeah, all the snow here is a real bummer. Sucks you have to wait now.
Congrats on the new baby though!~

Well, our GCC is a treasure. He'll happily greet anyone in the house (he's the ONLY one of our flock of 8 birds that will do that!), plays constantly, amuses himself when no one's around, and is generally just a joy to have around.

He's sexually mature now, so a lot of his time is spend "servicing" his toys, but it's natural, so we don't fret over it.

And, unlike our bigger birds, his bites (if we ever got one) would be no match for theirs and again, unlike our Lovies, he doesn't seem inclined to do so. He's wonderful!

Hi Sarah. My Green Cheek is really funny as well. Unlike the others posted above, mine can be a biter. He especially likes to bite fingers. But usually he is really sweet. He entertains himself and likes to play with his foot toys while on his back. Ours has been re-homed several times. We are the third or fourth house he's been in. Who knows how he was treated before we got him. Poor baby. But he is definitely a part of our family!

Welcome!
Our GCC is a bundle of fluffy energy, we've only had him for 3 months but he's an adorable monster. He can entertain himself but he's so stuck on us he's a shouts at us when we put him away to do things like leave the room and cook or shower. Otherwise he's great, he's so easy to cater for :) he'll try most things which made changing his seed diet to a pellet so easy! He's the Chewy devil sometimes (i.e. my laptop or boyfriends computer) but he's learning to leave them alone slowly. He's nearly poop trained!

Hello Kyoto
Nice to meet another Canadian on here, especially a Maritimer. I lived in Clayton Park area of Halifax for a while. Loved it there and still visit from time to time since I have a son in the home of Sid the Kid..Cole Harbour. I hear you have lots of snow too.
Roary.

Sorry, forgot to mention I happy that you are getting a GCC. They are very intelligent birds and learn very quickly. And like all birds they do have some drawbacks.

Sorry, I forgot to say I'm happy you are getting a GCC. Very intelligent bird but like all birds do have some drawbacks. Same goes for humans too I guess.

I don't know if you are getting this several times or not. If so please excuse. But I forgot to say I'm happy you are getting a GCC. They are very intelligent birds and easy to teach. But like all birds (humans too) they have their drawbacks which are minor compared to their plusses. As you probably read on here my Caillou was for a few years Caillou The Show Bird. I was always tearing around the countryside putting on shows with him and everyone loved him. But he is mostly retired from that now.

Roary,
How comical! I actually live 5 minutes from Clayton park :) Thank you for the welcome.

I've read about some of the drawbacks, but I feel that none of them are going to be crippling for my ability to care for my baby.
