I am the new mommy of a baby Pineapple green cheek conure, Pichu. She is my first bird, and I love her so much. She has already transformed my life in 3 short weeks. I want to bring her a friend when I go to work, does anyone know if I can add another crimson bellied baby to her cage?

Hi and welcome. I wouldn't put another bird in with your current one. Many times they will not get along being different species or they will get along so well that neither really want to be with or spend time with you. Conures can go through a nippy stage so the more training and bonding you do now with your current bird the more success you will have in the long run. How much time to do currently spend training and giving one on one attention to your bird? As long as you provide toys and an enriching environment your baby should be able to stay amused and occupied while you are at work. Then you can do training and out time with you when you are home.

If you are new to birds it is common to think they need a friend but with companion birds we (the humans) become their flock and they are just as happy to spend time with you.

As labell has said, so long as you have enough time to devote to Pichu (love the name, by the way!) she will become your forever baby. She'll cling to you, beg for treats, skritches and cuddles.

It's normal for us to think our fids need a friend. I think we feel the same way with other animals as well. However, because Pichu is still settling in, I'd wait a while to see what her personality is like.

Not only that, but bringing in a second bird now would require you to place that bird in another room in his own cage, even if they came from the same place.

Ok thanks everyone, I don't have the space for another cage until I move to larger apartment, I only work 6-8 hours some days and longer other days but come home for lunch. Pichu spends all her time outside the cage when I'm home, she has 3 different play areas, plus she loves to cuddle in my neck. In the evening I cuddle a few hours before putting her to bed. She is very well raised, and socialized and loves everyone that meets her.

I have had many animals in my life cats, dogs, rabbits, mice etc pichu is my first bird and she has the most fun and loving personality. I have convinced a friend to get a green cheek for his mom, they bring so much love to your heart. I have already potty trained her, but no tricks yet. I wanted to let her settle in first. Not sure what age they will learn to talk ?

Welcome to the forum!!! Some birds may never talk just so that you know! When away, it may be wise to turn on radio or tv and let them listen or watch. Cause if you do get another bird, always practice quarantine!!!! You need to have the new bird in the new cage anyways, then after quarantine period then you can place them side by side to keep each other as acquaintance.
