Good evening (or good morning!) to you all!

Really pleased to join the forum! I thought I would introduce my little gang as we have just had a new member to our family and he is our first parrot!

Benji is a hahns dwarf macaw parrot who was hand reared and is 6 years old. He has been with us for just over 2 weeks and he is an absolutely beautiful boy! He is quite shy (having spent most of his life in and out of homes and more recently within the pet shop environment) but is getting more and more confident with us. He now takes peanuts and grape from us inside the cage and is starting to speak. Yesterday he actually started to imitate the way I laugh (do I REALLY sound like that!? lol) Even our 2 year old cat Spock finds him easy to live with (the cage having a nice little snooze rack underneath for him to climb on is a coincidence I'm sure!)

My boyfriend and I found the forum a few days ago and were keen to join so we could trade stories, ask for advice and share our love for the little guy. Tom's parents have a sun conure so they have long held a love for our feathered friends. As soon as I saw him I was smitten- he has a great nature and I can't wait for him to get to know us more and for us to get to know him.

Speak soon!

Char, Tom, Benji and Spock xxx

Welcome! Mini macaws are well loved on the forum.
You must be SO excited, and thankyou for adopting a bird who's not a baby. So many out there who need homes, and Benji is still a very young bird.

We love sharing photos too, so when you get photos of Benji feel free to make a thread for his new pics :D

We certainly are Copperarabian! And thank you for the hello!
I've just been on your profile and seen your two beautiful birds! How stunning they are. Rosie has such a gorgeous colour to her feathers, how long have you had her?

I have just uploaded some pics of him to my computer- they are not very good (he's a little camera shy) but I am hoping to get some close ups soon.

We had seen him in the pet store since way before christmas and felt so sad that no one had wanted him- the manager said he was very talkative and laid back so she was glad he went to a new home in the end. From what she was saying, his previous owner passed away from cancer and his wife could not look after all his parrots, such a shame. He wasn't let out of his cage so we are hoping to teach him to feel like outside the cage is fun and not to be too scared. He has come on leaps and bounds in the last two weeks so fingers crossed we can get him to progress even further :)

Ha ha, I have heard all kinds of stories about their powers of mimicry! Our friend had a cockatoo who could imitate the doorbell and the fire alarm!

I honestly couldn't stop laughing when he started going 'hurrhurrhurr'...kind of creepy though! ;)
