Hello Everyone!
My name is Monica and I'm 25 years old living in Virginia. My passion for animals has been lifelong, but nothing has ever touched my soul the way a parrot has. I had a red bellied parrot for a too-short two and a half years - I lost him in an incident with another animal. He survived the resulting surgery and someone spooked him half an hour before I went to pick him up and he went into shock and did not recover. I am now paranoid about any animals being around my little Mismi - there are some lessons that are too hard to learn. I have some experience breading cockatiels for my local pet store, and I later gave the pair to one of the bird department managers to care for as my then-husband was in the military and we were moving around too much to care for a pair and their offspring. Now that I'm back in the area, I still stop by and check on them every now and again. The same manager now also has a few hens in the back yard, and her birds are spoiled rotten - I am pleased!
I was wandering around at her family's store the other day and saw a little green bird the likes of which I had never seen. It was slightly larger than a parotlett and had the long tail of a parakeet. In all my years working in the pet and animal industry, I had never met a white winged parakeet! A little weaning mustache parakeet almost gave Mismi a run for my money (the boyfriend was in love with the little fellow), but Mismi's quirky, affectionate personality had me roped in from the moment he crossed the stand and hopped on my finger. What can I say? Sometimes the bird picks the person!
