Parrots
African Gray, Quaker, Blue Front Amazon
Hi, I'm very happy to have found this forum! We have three rescue parrots, an African Gray, a Quaker, and recently a Blue Front Amazon. My gray came from a hoarding situation, my quaker was severely abused and had both wings broken before we got her, and our BFA is a wild caught bird who has had at least 4-5 homes in the past year. It's been quite a wild ride so far and I look forward to learning all I can from everyone here! :) :green:

Hi and Welcome,

I'm newish here but far from new in real life!

Judging by the problems your birds have had we may end up learning something from you but either way there is enough information here than you'll ever need and many great members.

Regards.

Hello and welcome!
I'm so glad you added your Fids to your family...sounds like they truly needed a good, loving home:)
I'd love to see pictures of them!
So glad you joined us.

I am always envious of multi bird homes! Sounds like a great flock! My flock is an Amazon, a rabbit and an Italian greyhound who all hang out together in the living room. I think they think they are all the same species.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Here's a pic of Paco, the new guy, on the day I got him. He whistles up a storm and is already getting new feathers in. We've only tried to handle him when we clipped his toe nails and put him in his new cage, but he seems to be settling in well. He was not impressed with the change in diet (he was on seed) but he's really become a pig at dinner time when put fresh fruit and veggies in there.

For some reason, I can't find any pics of my other two monsters on this computer, but when I do, I'll post some of them, as well. :)

Welcome to this wonderful forum.

I am also from Michigan and a true Amazon Snob!

Best way to get a ton of information quickly is to read the first several Threads in each forum you have an interest in.

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you've made some dramatic changes in the lives of three wonderful birds. I'm glad you were able to help them.

Paco is a beauty. Looking forward to meeting the others.

Oh yes, Paco's my first amazon, and he's soooo different than my gray or my quaker. For one, he's such a pig! Now that he's off his seed, he eats EVERYTHING in sight (except pellets, unless it's a last resort, lol). He's also a lot less fussy and moody than my others, and even though I still don't try to touch him if he's not comfortable with it, he seems so relaxed and laid back most of the time. I've also never had a bird that growls before. I don't know if that's an amazon thing, or just him, but if you get too close or too much in his space, he'll actually growl at you.

They do growl...but they also purr! They sound similar but the circumstances tell you which it is. Maybe it is the name Paco but I agree, amazons can be so laid back! Hard not to adore them!
