Ezio "Boobird" the Eclectus
Ezio is my first parrot, and has been with me since April. I'm completely in love with him, and he's the best little birdy I could ever imagine! I've been feeding him TropiMix for large parrots mixed with RoudyBush. I would like to switch him to an all or mostly fresh food diet and just want the absolute best for him. I've been looking up chop recipes and different things, but it all seems so compliated, and I start feeling really stupid. Plus, I'm only making food for one bird. Can anyone tell me, walk me through, or link me to an easy, idiot-proof guide?

Hello and welcome! Please don't feel stupid! Some of the chop recipes are quite complex.
I also have an eclectus, and for his morning, afternoon and evening feed I cut up a variety of fruits and veggies. I cut his fresh for each feed, but it could easily be cut ahead and refrigerated:)
I alternate with raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, mango, grapes, pomegranates, papaya, cooked sweet potatoes dipped in sesame seeds or red chili flakes, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, spinach occasionally, carrots, peas, bell peppers, and red cabbage, to name a few. He also gets birdie bread and a 15 bean cooked mixture once a week. There are some wonderful recipes in the Parrot diet section!
He only gets a tablespoon each of seeds and pellets for his overnight feed, which I remove first thing in the morning.
I would love to see pictures of Ezio!

Welcome! I am also a new eckie owner =) I strongly encourage you to go for the fresh food! An eckies diet should be at least 75% fresh fruit and veggies. I make up a large batch of chop and freeze it in portions in zip lock bags =) I actually really enjoy making chop though I know I make a bit of a mess haha and the birds love helping! What I do it just take a bunch of whatever bird safe foods (a large variety is best) and combine it all according to how your bird likes it. Mine seems to like it really fine. I also add a little brown rice and/or cooked bean mix and supplement this with sprouted seeds, soak seed and a little regular seed. I hope this helps a little.

Welcome to the forum!!!! Feeding one is just as the same as feeding many. A lot of chop mix you can make and freeze in portions for later. But we go to the grocery store twice a week to get fresh produce to feed our birds. Please do visit this site to get some insights on keep eclectus. Eclectus Parrots

Thanks, everybody! I actually just braved it to Whole Foods to get a few things for him! It was a madhouse, and with my social anxiety, I couldn't concentrate. I ended up getting him red, yellow, and orange bell peppers, jalapenos (his absolute favorite!), pineapple, mangos, apples, carrots, and a few blackberries. I chopped it all in the processor and mixed in some of his mung bean sprouts. He LOVES it! I realize now that I'm missing a grain, but I think he should be ok with this as his main diet, and still getting some of his food mix before bed. I'm so happy I did this!

Remember they need stuffs high in betacarotene!!! Don't forget to add those stuffs.

I'm going to add more to the next batch. I was told on an Eclectus facebook page not to freeze the fruit. I'll get it eventually :)

I just added a few of my favorite pictures of him :)

Oh my goodness he is gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE his pic with Santa! Did he get what he asked for? And what did Santa say about holding him? Too cute:)
And congrats on making your first chop mix!

Thank you! He got everything he asked for! He pooped on Santa, but thankfully Santa was very experienced with parrots and didn't care!

How on earth did you manage to find a Santa experienced with parrots? That is awesome!

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

First off, MASSIVE PROPS for the Ezio Auditore name! Nice! A female conversant in video game speak? Most impressive and quite rare. (I'm exposing my own inner geek here, I know. Lol!)

How old is Ezio? Is he flighted or clipped? Have you been doing any training with him?
