Hello Schmitt, Welcome to the forum, We all know the feeling of longing for some parrot LOVE :)

Sometimes you can find a deal on re-homing a bird, they need love too, as a matter of fact I have already promised to make my next bird a rescue bird, I have heard stories here of some of the nicest, most loving birds being found that way AND they don't cost nearly as much
Sometimes The Bird Just PICKS YOU !! :)

What size parrot were you thinking about?

Hello and Welcome Ellen, Do you have a type of Parrot in mind?

Joe

Hi welcome! You've come to the right place to talk and learn about what parrot might be the perfect one for you :)

Welcome to the forum. Where is AR ?

Just checking.

Hello and welcome to the forum. It's nice to see you are doing your research before you bring your bird home. :)

Three of my six parrots were free, initially! Don't let that fool you. There's the cost of the largest cage you can afford, toys that constantly need replacing, and according to what species you get, an expensive diet, then there is vet care that can run into thousands before you can blink. Not trying to discourage you at all, but please be aware. Another consideration with a rehomed or rescue bird is that a lot of them have issues from their previous homes and require a lot of extra training time, not to mention patience and a certain amount of knowledge to work through those problems.

I found Ducati on Craigslist. He was $500 but he also came with EVERYTHING! One big cage, one really kind of tiny travel cage, seeds, toys, cage deodorizer, and even spare newspaper for the bottom of his cage. I do still buy toys on a regular basis and the organic food delivery I get for his food (and some of ours) is not really cheap. But he is definitely worth it.

I don't know where you are in Arizona, but ONE OF THE BEST PARROT RESCUES in the US is in AR...

The Oasis Sanctuary - Home

IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THESE GUYS IN SHORT ORDER, TRY VOLUNTEERING FOR A LITTLE WHILE...

Oasis is a sanctuary, no rehoming ,no adaptions, once there ,they are there to say. I support them, been there several times. Big difference between rescues and sanctuary.

BTW if you want to volunteer there, pack your bag, long way in the middle of nowhere. They do have "cabins" for volunteers to stay in. Don't expect alot of extras, LOL.

Yes. I should have mentioned that they are a permanent placement facility.

BUT IF YOU WANT TO GET TO KNOW A LOT OF BIRDS IN SHORT ORDER, SPEND A FEW DAYS WORKING WITH THEM THERE...

The adoption agency in your area is TARA. Volunteer for awhile, you can probably make the right connections, and find the right bird in need of a situation like yours...
