Hello,

Just joined the forum, and hoping to get some useful advice and tips before we purchase our first parrot.

My husband has owned parrots before, but not for about 30 years. I've never had a parrot, but is has always been a desire of mine. We currently have chickens, ducks and a cat, so I'm comfortable with the responsibility that comes with pet ownership.

The parrot will come to work with us during the day and come home with us on an evening, so will have plenty of stimulation and attention.

We're undecided between an Amazon and a Grey, so any thoughts on that would be welcome. Also advice on whether a male or female would be better.

I think that's everything, looking forward to reading the rest of the forum!

Welcome! I wouldn't have any advice for you but I can tell you that you did come to the right place. We have several people who can give you all the advice you need concerning those types of birds.

Welcome to the forum. This is a good place to get that kind of info. If you have the time and passion too be a parront then the only real considerations would be where are you taking the bird to work. Noisy, many people or quiet office atmosphere. I suggest a female no matter what bird you select. They are generally less moody and not as protective as the males. I have a U-too and she loves people attention. She would get right in the middle of what ever is going on. You should see her on poker night. Read up on the breeds and they`re general characteristics and make a decision on that. Your parrot will be your best buddy in time.

Welcome to the forum:)

I would personally recommend a Zon, but thats probably me being bias lol

I have a YC Zon and she is adorable.. she is loving, funny and very intelligent! I have only had her a year, but have never regretted having her!

Female Zons do not go through such bad aggression during sexual maturity, which is why I chose a Female.

Having said all this, Greys are also wonderful Birds to have... I think they tend to be a bit more laid back than Zons :)

Wow, thank you for the welcome and the quick replies!

We run a shop, so there are people in and out all day. We are thinking of having a cage in the office so that it will have somewhere to feel safe and be out of sight if it wants to be. We also have space to have a playstand behind the counter with us.

I've always been more attracted to the amazon, especially the blue fronted and orange winged.

Both the BF and OW are beautiful :) I think the OW is slighly more laid back than the BF :)

Codie loves her Playstand and quite happily plays on there all day.

hi and welcome! I have no idea about either amazons or greys, but i wish you all the best of luck in finding your future family member!
