- Argyle, a Yellow sided GCC hatched 6/13/13 and Fiji, a turquoise GCC born June 2015
Hello! My name is Kat, and I am a new to the world of conures! I fell in love with a little yellow sided green cheek conure at a pet store on the day he arrived from the breeders, couldn't get him out of my mind, and went and got him 4 days later. I did some internet research on GCC's over the weekend before I got him/her, and spent several hours on this site reading up on them. Figured it was only fitting to join the forums since I am now a proud owner!
I have had him/her (calling him a him for convenience, but haven't done the DNA test yet) since Tuesday, and am definitely in love! They are SO.MUCH.FUN!!! Took him to the vet yesterday to get looked over, and he passed with flying colors. Vet was very impressed with how friendly and willing to interact with strangers he is. I have named him Argyle, as it goes with my dog named Paisley!
Based on the suggestions I read on this forum last week, I bought Harrisons bird food the day I brought him home, as well as conure seed mixture and the zupreem food he was used to. Also have been introducing him to new fruits/vegetables each day, and have already started using my food processor to mince up and freeze it for later.
I bought a starter cage with him, but have ordered a bigger and nicer one from petco that should arrive next Friday. This is the cage I ordered:
HQ Opening Victorian Top with Cart Stand Bird Cage - Cockatiel Bird Cage and Conure Bird Cage from petco.com
I would love suggestions for toys/things for it so he has a nice home!
I would love any stories/suggestions for raising a well adapted and interactive bird. He just hatched june 13, so I feel I'm starting with an empty slate, and I want to make sure I raise him right!
Thanks!!
