Hello from 2 conures and Momma!

We're from Cleveland, OH, and happy to find new friends!

Alice was our first conure, we've had her (not sexed) for 8 months, and she's 11 months old. She's a pineapple green cheek conure. She could be an easier conure if she tried! She had adapted very well to living with us, but a few months ago, she started getting a little restless and rough. She was constantly playing with us (which is an absolute joy), but her neediness went to extremes where she would scream like crazy if you weren't in the same room. She would often fly to follow us, which made us worry she would potentially hurt herself. We have plenty of time to spend with her, and do, but we considered a companion to slow her down. When she was 8 months old, we got the companion!

Drake is our second conure, whom has been with us 3 months and is 8 months old. He (also not sexed) is a black capped conure and couldn't be quirkier. I, truly, think we should have waited to get him or kept looking. Though he is very loved and very cared for, he has a lot to learn. When we got him, they informed us they had a couple clutches at once and admittedly haven't been able to handle all of them as much as they should. This was merely mentioned in casual conversation, and I think his cuteness muffled that a little. It's very apparent he didn't get as much attention as Alice did when we bought her from exotic bird store. I will be posting questions regarding his behavior and am open to all tips and advice. He is a total monkey, really intense, and loves pomegranate seeds!

Thanks for being here and giving out advice, sharing stories, and coming together as a big feathery community!

Welcome to the forum, you're fids are adorable :) We have a black cap as well, just wanted to let you know though, black capped conures are actually their own species, not a form of green cheek :) They are very similar though so I know a lot of people that confuse the two. Ours is a bit of a handful as well, he is absolutely too cute for his own good. I've noticed that he is a lot harder to read as some other birds I have worked with. Ours has taken to my SO more than me and is pretty good for him, he likes to lure me over asking to be picked up and then randomly bite me as soon as he steps up :p Very nice of him, huh. Atleast he's always sure to give me the most adorable, "I love you" right after he tries to eat my finger...

Re: Hello from 2 conures and Momma!

Whoops. I guess all the books I've read have tricked me into thinking black caps were green cheeks. They're listed back to back in conure sections of parrot books, I guess I never grasped that they were separate and not a run-on of green cheeks. Sorry about that! Amateur mistake! Haha! Still learning over here.

Welcome to the forum! Both of your birds are adorable!

Hi, I'm in NW Ohio near Bowling Green and Findlay. I'm originally from Cleveland though.

Awesome! I live in Mayfield Heights and got my birds from Pet Paradise in Willoughby.

I think that is where I got my parrot tower, but it was more than a decade ago. I still have friends and family there though, so I'm there once in awhile.

No need to apologize, they are very similar to each other and you're right, they usually are listed near each other in most books. And with all of the color mutations with the green cheeks there are, it's pretty easy to get confused.
