I'm not 100% sure, but I may have a red breasted parakeet. What I do know is that he's a naughty bird.
I live in Vietnam and got a bird a few months ago. He's turning into quite the character. He's a jerk and an escape artist and he knows when he's bad.

This is a new experience for me but I hope to get him flight trained and able to be petted as well as stop biting.

Thank you for providing this forum and I hope to learn a lot as well as help when the time comes.

I was told he's a red breasted parakeet but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure he's a boy but I think he is.:greenyellow:

Hello there, you and your naughty bird are most welcome, plenty of other naughty bird playmates here! :)

Welcome to you both!

I checked the name red breasted parakeet, it is also known as moustached parakeet, the avatar is small, I think you can be right and he can be young one but we need bigger picture to tell this in 100%

Welcome Huda_bird. I agree with LaManuka in that you will find heaps of cheeky playmates here.

Please reference Scott's links. Harness training takes time but sure is worth it for both of you. Ellie loves going out and about, so that means 'harness is fun'!

Regarding the 'escape artist': if you are new to birds completely, then please check this forum for 'bird safety'. This will include safe cookware, safely secured electrical cords, exposed light bulbs, safe storage of anything toxic or elimination of same, safe cleaning supplies, safe foods for your bird, and safe toys etc. etc. etc. Don't be daunted by the 'safety requirements'! The appropriate measures taken by you will result in a very healthy escape artist and lots of joy for you both, for a long time to come :)

Welcome to the Forum Huda_bird.... Seems like you found the perfect place to land for a naughty Bird. I don't know much about parakeets, other than when I was a child, I was told you could sex them by the colors of their Beak, Then again I don't know if thats true with a Red Breasted Parakeet or not, So I'll leave that for someone more knowledgeable to answer. The biting problem I'm sure will end as soon as you establish trust and a bond, and that comes with time, and I'm betting someone will share a link to you about building trust and a bond with your new friend. I can say with 100% certainty, you've come to the right place to get started.

I am so happy to welcome you!
Good to have you in our flock!
