Hi guys, i just found this forum. I have many cockatiels, some couple for breeding, some youngling, a few hand fed.

Welcome, I grew up on cockatiels....delicious.....NO j/k I loved all my 3 cockatiels, they have a great forum here I'm sure you have lots of advice, and our members can help you with anything you come across.

Cockatiels are the only parrots I ever had, i'm having a lot of fun breeding the and looking for the mutations i like. But now the thing that i'm enjoying the most is free flying them outside. If i'd share a video or 2, where sould i post? Cockatiels? Free flight? Both? thank you for the welcome by the way

Free flying outside? No harness? Even if clipped, that scares me to death! Raptors, dogs, cats... and so many people have lost birds from free flight, or just 'escapes'...

both seems to be fine, whatever is more relevant, the breed or the free flight. I'd go through the cockatiel boards and answer questions new people have, and feel free to ask questions yourself, even the moderators here ask questions. Don't feel like you have to pretend to be savvy or an expert...many are, but everyone knows nothing about everything. BUT we are each an expert on one little thing. This is a safe, fun, spam free, community. Enjoy!

Ok, thank you, you are very right. Indeed my experience in breeding is far from complete, i'm trying hard because i enjoy this hobby so much but i started breeding just 3 years ago so i'm actually a newbie

Yes, completly free. I lost my first cockatiel from a window after 3 years together, and i didn't get any other hand fed for a long time. Then i decided that any other hand fed that i wanted to keep as my pet had to be trained to free fly, so i don't take the risk to lose the from a forgotten window again

the whole free flight or clipped is a big deal for some, I advise don't engage either way. I agree with those that like free flight, but I personally and think for some it's better to clip. It all depends on the situation, I recommend to not engage in such discussions it just becomes a game of tic tac toe.
The free flights don't recognize idiots come over and leave the door open, or that the owner might be in a wheelchair and can't get to a bird up high, or want to go out and just play in the garden with their bird.
The "clippers" are missing out (we are) and the birds are missing out (they are) but it all comes down to what is best for the bird, his longevity and quality of life and the owners ability to care for the bird. My bird hangs out with me in department stores like TSC and mom and pop stores and can play in the grass and dirt.
I had decided not to get into these debates anymore, but your brand new so I figured I'd post for you an you only. I've lost a bird before to an open door to a neighbor....I believe every bird owner except the shootheels of society will do right by their bird and to the best for them, so I think if you feel safer with option 1 or 2 go with what feels better in your circumstance.

I'm new to this forum but i'm not new to the savage fights between the "clipping wings is for the best of the parrots" and the "clipping wing is like cutting your legs"
Also i've seen some pretty hard argues between free flyers and harness flyers only.
I still belive we can have a chilled and relaxed conversation even when we have different ideas if we are good people
What i ment with free flight was actually free flight outside, under the sky, with no clips or harness, in my yard. My 2 birdies now know the area very well and coming in and out of the window every time they want.

Hello, welcome. I had my first clutch of cockatiels last spring, and it was such a fun experience. Had to pull and handfeed one when it was getting neglected and hurt but he weaned just fine. All babies found good homes and I am content with just my pair for now.
I'd be careful with free-flight. Yeah, birds can truly be birds but with a species so small, in my area crows are prolific and they'd surely be chased and possibly attacked to death. So whatever floats your boat, everyone has their own opinion on free flight. They have a good time flying around my house, of course I make sure all the curtains are covering windows. Even free-flighted, unclipped birds can crash into windows.
How about some pictures of your cockatiels?? Also... you wouldn't happen to be a Pokémon fan, would you? Haha, my favorite has to be Charizard!!

ahahaha i proudly am! They drive me trough my childhood and i still enjoy them
Man, cockatiels are fast. FAST. And they are always on the alert and when they fly they change direction continuosly. There are hooded crows near my home, they'll never catch my birdies. I only saw one time an attempt of chase and it has been a joke.. it had 0 chances.
Ok, here we did some recall reinforcement and a last flight before bed.. i always cage them before dawn.
